Holt shocked about Bulger benching

With "madness'' swirling at Rams Park, receiver Torry Holt is trying to put aside the turbulence after the team's 0-3 start. Holt and other players were shocked this week when coach Scott Linehan benched quarterback Marc Bulger and made 38-year-old Trent Green the starter. In another move, Linehan cut veteran cornerback Fakir Brown. Holt says his focus is on trying to beat undefeated Buffalo (3-0). The Rams host the Bills on Sunday. But he and teammates are still getting over Bulger's demotion. "I was shocked, man, I was really shocked,'' Holt said. "I went up to Marc immediately and apologized to him as a receiver and for our receiver group and the offense for not making enough plays to give him an opportunity to stay on the football field with us.''

Desperate times call for desperate measures. The coach is probably trying to save his job and will try anything to keep it.

The Rams are gonna win this game, which will make the "madness" swirl around Orchard Park for a week or so.

Scott will be gone in a few weeks, his players are not onboard with his decisions.

Why do coaches think by changing the QB will fix the problems of a bad team?

September 27, 2008  10:01 AM ET

St.Louis has a football team?

September 27, 2008  10:05 AM ET

aap - they dont. Scott Linnehan is just trying to save his job. The coaching staff is largely at fault here, as is the GM.

Couldnt hurt to try, cant make everyone happy, especially when the team you try and run just sucks no matter what.

September 27, 2008  12:23 PM ET

why dont they sub Pace, and that whole O-line...

September 27, 2008  12:23 PM ET

The problem with the Rams has nothing to do with the players. It has to do with the fact that the Rams coaching staff is terrible as is their GM. This is a last ditch effort for them. I figure after this week Linehan and Lewis will both be out of work.

September 27, 2008  12:56 PM ET

Most coaches do the play calling, but the players have to be the ones to execute the plays. I have nothing against Bulger, but maybe this will give the team a spark.

Send Bulger to the Patriots for a couple of low picks. Or trade for Cassel straight up!

Torry Holt exclaims, "Who's going to not throw it to me this week?"

I love Bulgar. It is good for you and has a lot of fibre.

This wheat product is common in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine and is catching on in Central America. Most NFL teams are already in tune with this energy enhancing grain.
