Woman G.M. for the Mariners?

Mariners president Chuck Armstrong said his team is vetting a wide range of general manager candidates, pointedly leaving open the possibility of Seattle hiring the first female general manager in major league history. Highly regarded Los Angeles Dodgers assistant GM Kim Ng is considered an option. The 39-year-old Ng has had her job for seven seasons and was a top adviser to New York Yankees' GM Brian Cashman before that. She was believed to be the final candidate beaten out by Ned Colletti when Los Angeles selected a new GM in 2005, and the Dodgers say she is the first woman to ever interview for a GM job. She may be getting a second interview soon. "It's time for some fresh thinking,'' Armstrong said at the end of his 23rd season with the team - what he called his worst and most "miserable'' one.

How good can she be since the Dodgers made the playoffs three time in her tenure and lost the first two times and most likely will lose this year also? Plus, the only reason they made the playoffs this years is because the rest of the division sucks!! Oh by the way Joe Torre made no difference.

Sounds like a typically sound Mariners decision.

So the Mariners can all expect to be traded to other teams one week of each month?

God I hope Faith doesn't find this thread ... this one's gonna bring out the chauvenist pigs like worms in a rainstorm ...

When they're playing this bad, getting upset only once a month,
is actually pretty good:)

How old is she?
(before, during, or after menopause?)

September 27, 2008  04:16 PM ET

Grossedout: What's wrong with you?

September 27, 2008  04:36 PM ET

For you ****, at least the Dodgers are IN the PLAYOFFS. How's the $200 million Yankees and $100 million Mariners doing these days? Hire Kim Ng and watch the Mariners become contenders overnight.

September 27, 2008  05:11 PM ET

It's about they give Kim Ng a shot !!! She is very qualified and should have had the G.M. position with another team (Dodgers???) a couple of years ago !!!

Seriously, the Dodgers suckass. The only reason they're in the playoffs is because they're in the weakest division in the Majors. My Lord, the NL West is a train wreck. There are only 5 teams in the AL that I think could not win the NL West.

Ng may be good. She's well respected and should not be down-graded because she works for the Dodgers. After all, she's the assistant to one of the worst GM's in baseball.

September 27, 2008  06:14 PM ET

Well good for the Mariners. The other Einstein geniuses don't seem to be makin the right decisions. Especially that nit- Bavasi who devastated that team with his no-brainer decisions. A fresh face and brains can do no worse that the M's are already in. So a woman GM that knows baseball I say bring it on M's

I'm all for equal pay for equal work and this woman looks like she is very capable.

I really prefer the young mid-thirties, long legs, tight butt and short shorts wearing, in other words female poetry in motion type GM's. But what the heck, go Settle.

Seattle was a World Series pick this year! This year! What happened? They have some talent, but it's time to rebuild this thing. If a chick can do it, let her. Hire the best person for the job, regardless of gender.
