Stafford, Moreno among battered Bulldogs

It was a bruising defeat for Georgia, all around. By the end, quarterback Matthew Stafford had a head injury that was said to be less than a concussion; tailback Knowshon Moreno had an undefined elbow injury; linebacker Dannell Ellerbe was facing down time with a knee injury, and receiver Kris Durham was on crutches with an ankle injury. Georgia coach Mark Richt said Stafford "was very clear-minded, but he got dinged pretty good." Stafford said "I'm fine" as he was led off by medical personnel. Richt said Moreno's elbow will have to be "checked out," probably Sunday. The coach said Ellerbe will miss "some time" but not the rest of the season and Durham at least the next game.

31-0 at halftime!!! Alabama's football team should be brought up on animal cruelty charges. Not since Michael Vick was free have dawgs been whipped that badly!

True, all true. Alabama played like a championship team, and Georgia showed way too many flaws and played with too many mental and physical mistakes to be considered a top-ranked team. It was heart-breaking to watch, and our worst fears were realized in the first half of this game: Georgia has a lot of potential, but makes too many mistakes and has too little experienced position players to compete at the top levels of college football. We were out-coached, and Alabama came to Athens with a solid offensive and defensive play to exploit every UGA weakness. We got our tails kicked, and our youth hopefully learned that you have to stay focused and that you can't give up 31 points to ANY team and expect to have a chance to win. Bobo's play calling didn't work, and we didnt make necessary adjustments until the 3rd quarter...by then, it's too late. Congrats, Bama. Enjoy your stay at the top: I think it will be brief, but you earned it... at least for this week.

So, what makes you think our stay at the top will be brief? Any facts, or just wishful thinking.

September 28, 2008  04:35 PM ET

I will just say..It don't matter how many times you get knocked down, what matters is how many times you get up...This season is not over. Go Dawgs!!!

September 28, 2008  07:34 PM ET

Brockone76, yeah yall are on top. You want facts? Ok..Ole Miss over Florida, Oregon State over USC. That's this year..Last year University of Lou. in Monroe over Alalabma, Appalachian State over Michigan, Kentucky over LSU..Those are last year. My point is, don't get the big head yet...

September 28, 2008  07:55 PM ET

Georgia sure did get knocked around. Bama was the better team, and they showed that they wanted it more. Good job Tide; I hope we'll see each other again in Atlanta. Maybe my dawgs will be more prepared then.

September 28, 2008  08:43 PM ET

It's not over, Dawgs. Just imagine what's it's like to be a florida gator right now. They have been Nutt-ed upon.

Ha!

I gloat because the gators I know up here in DFW are complete arseholes and they need this.

September 28, 2008  10:08 PM ET

georgia needs to start worrying about the team they are playing instead of what color jersey they are wearing because that crap don't against a Saban coached team

It's neither facts or wishful thinking. It will be brief because that's just the way we roll in the SEC. The phrase "anyone can beat anyone on any given day" means no more anywhere than it does in the SEC. No one is taking anything away from Bama, that's just the way it is. I'll lay my money on a loss to Auburn, personally...

Hahaha!!! For all the static I give people about their use of the language, check out that gaffe I just made! For records sake, I meant to say, "It's neither facts NOR wishful thinking". My mistake.

I'd give back the Georgia win if it means a loss to either Tennessee or Auburn! You could even throw LSU in there. (although LSU makes way more of the "rivalry" than we do)

September 29, 2008  03:07 PM ET

hey trojan..what were the Beavers rated when they beat yall??? LMAO at being beat by Beavers!!! They gave sanchez a Dirty Sanchez...

Isn't rivalry week in the SEC one of the most brutal things in all of creation? It ranks right up there with the auto de fe.

And yeah, a loss to Tennessee or Auburn would hurt Bama's title shot much more than the UGA upset. Hell, as long as it's an SEC team at #1 when the smoke clears, I won't care.

how sad... the day when people root for a freaking conference or league as a big deal has arrived

September 29, 2008  11:12 PM ET

been a gator fan since the 80's but beyond that i have always a fan of all the SEC teams 1185 seams like an angry buckeye/little 10 fan

HAH!!! I am anything but such a person (dont read too much into the location)... although I live in the north...which may be a distinguishing factor... only the SEC has that kind of conference loyalty...I understand rooting for other teams in your conference to win, but you guys are obsessed with all of the chanting and whatnot...I couldn't give a darn about the other teams in my conference...only the ones that my team plays to make our schedule look better

...I think maybe its a southern "we're our own seperate little group and want to secede from the union" thing... cause no other conference has such fierce loyalty to a conference aka REGION of the country
