Predators may let Kariya walk

The Predators' trades do not bode well for the signing of forward Paul Kariya, who will also become an unrestricted free agent July 1 if the Predators do not re-sign him before then. "In all probability we are not going to be signing our top free agents," GM David Poile said. "Paul Kariya would like to come back to Nashville as long as he sees we are a very competitive team. I can see Paul waiting a little bit of time before making a decision. I am going to meet with his agent this weekend in Columbus."

And what team did Kariya ever make competitive that he should demand to play on a competitive team? What he's asking for is to go to a team where he can dissappear while still collecting a big, fat paycheck! He is a softy who simply vanishes when the going gets tough. Just ask Anaheim! Great player when it doesn't matter! Colorado was a very competitive team, remember his days there? He did nothing! He just dissappeared! He could be Mike Comrie's twin brother. IMHO, he's the product of media overhype. But he's never lived up to it! Greatly overrated!

Hmmm never really thought about that..... guess it's right the only clutch thing I remember about Karyia was for Team Canada like eons ago.

I somewhat agree with ROAMER. With the AVS, however, he was injured quite a bit and I don't think ever really found his spot with the team. With Sakic, Forsburg, Selanne, Foote, Blake and others I don't think he ever figured out what his role was. He is by no means a "leader" as it were but he is a great support person. Thus the reason I agree with ROAMER that he is a product of media overhype. I like the way he plays and he is an above average player. With his clock ticking on hoisting the Cup and the fact that the sale of the Preds is up in the air I think he is just looking for a more solid situation. If the Avs would sign him again I would be happy as I'm an AVS fan but it won't be for nearly as much money as they wasted on him last time. I think bringing him back would help in getting Sakic some support that last time was done by other personel which may bring his play back to life but once again, not at the cost that was paid last time by the Avs.

He always struck me as a great roleplayer, not a starplayer. I think plenty of teams would love him in support, just not at $5-7million a year.

I have a feeling he will be back playing with Teemu, even though i am not sure i want him back in Anaheim

romaer: I'm not a big Kariya fan, but when you say "He is a softy who simply vanishes when the going gets tough." ...that's pretty lame. What about when he was laid out by Stevens in the Finals. He came back to score a goal that same game. That was pretty tough!

Living in Orange County, CA I have been watching the Ducks since they started. Until the last couple of years there were some poor seasons! The line combination of Selanne, Ruccin, Kariya wasgreat, but when those three guys were there together that was pretty much all Anaheim had! Kariya still has a lot to offer a team, but as mentioned above, not for a price of $5-7m/year! He might be worth a mil or two a year. As a hockey fan it would be fun to see him on a line with Selanne again, but as a Ducks fan I'm in no hurry to see him return unless it's at a bargain price!

virtuetech - that game, that goal was four years ago. what brilliant thing has he done since then?

dave97 - agreed. there were some crazy memories i have of the dynamic duo tag-teaming it up the ice. but even though for sentimental reasons (and then some), it'd be fun to see him play with teemu again, i am certainly not hoping to see him don the ducks jersey anytime soon... right now, andy mcdonald fits the bill nicely IMO.

it would be nice to see Kariya come home to Vancouver... *sighs*

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE KARIYA ON SIDNEY CROSBYS LEFT WING......MUAHAHAHAHAHA

To Tribe13: The Avs only paid Kariya 1.2 million that year.
