Why Dodgers must re-sign Manny

Because of the off-the-charts public adulation and the off-the-charts performance, there will be no bigger decision for Frank McCourt in his Dodger stewardship than whether to re-sign Manny Ramirez. If he doesn't re-sign him, McCourt will be accused of being cheap and not caring about the fans. If he does sign him to some extraordinary deal, he must live with the knowledge that, at any time, The Bad Manny could rear his head. Ramirez has undergone a complete Scott Boras makeover. His play has been MVP-caliber, he is giving to charities, making appearances, signing autographs - some or all of the things he didn't do in Boston. In between Moet baths, he spoke about the present, the past, and the future, all in Good Manny mode.

Introducing your left fielder for the New York Yankees MMMMMMMAAAAANNNNNYYYYY RRRRRAAAAAMMIIIIIRRRRRREEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZ

You know I was guilty myself of thinking MAYBE Manny was not done but not as dominant, well I was wrong, but I will tell you this, give him his money and he will only give you probably a year then its playing when he wants, that is ok though because if you get to postseason Manny will be there for you, but I will tell you this he totally gave up on Red Sox and he was dead wrong remember the Red Sox gave him alot of money and when it was time for them to be able to call the shots he went awol, imagine having a 20 mil option and not wanting to play for that, instead you force team to trade you

If the dimensions of the Yankee Stadium (Which rumor has it might not be ready in time) is anything like the old park Manny playing the field there would be scary. His hiiting will be equally as scary. Damon and Manny sharing left and DH with Nady in right. Not too bad.

Either way Muck Fanny.

They left out the part that Manny wants 25 Mil a year for 4 years! That's why he Manny-ed himself out of Boston. You think if he ws still in Boston right now he would be putting up these numbers? Its a contract push.....it's only temporary. Next year he'll hit .280 with 22/85 I don't think even the Yankees would be stupid enough to pay that amount although never underestimate the Yankees willingness to overpay.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN...
Most likely;
1. Mets
2. Yankees
3. Cubs
4. angels
5. rangers
6. dodgers

I say Manny is a Yankee next year. DEFINITELY...Brian Cashman won't do it but Hal Steinbrenner will..

September 28, 2008  12:50 PM ET

TeddySalad - Manny Ramirez hasn't hit below .292 since 1994. I seriously doubt he'll suddenly drop that low next year. He will certainly be reaching a decline in his career as he's getting older, but come on he's one of the best hitters of all time.

September 28, 2008  12:53 PM ET

Nope. I'm an Angeleno, and unless Manny does a TOTAL reformation:

"I'm rich already. I'm a hall of famer already. Just give me eight a year for three more years, club option on that third one. Life is good".

Nah. I know what this is. Friends with benefits. We don't hang out or have to date in public. When I need you, or you need me, I can call you up and we can get to it. But I'll find something better soon, and it'll all be over. But we had fun. Oh how we had fun.

Focus on getting Blake back, voiding or dumping Tubbo Jones, sign some more character guys, guys that can manufacture runs through speed and contact, maybe get another ace. The honeymoon will be over before May if Man-Ram returns.

Hal won't want him but Hank will probably use not getting Santana to push for Manny.

In an ideal MLB world, Ramirez would get the Bonds / Sosa treatment...no deal anywhere in sight...not even for the league minimum. Then again, in an ideal MLB world there would be no Manny's or Borass's in the first place.

Being a Sox fan (of the Red type), I just hope he stays in the N.L. I don't want to see Manny playing for the Evil Empire. Although they can't even buy a title anymore. As I saw on a bumper sticker recently....World Series Titles the century....RedSox 2 Yankees 0

September 28, 2008  02:44 PM ET

He's a hell of a hitter, but he quit on his teamates in Boston that say's it all, as a Met's fan I'm hoping the Met's don't sign him.

Hopefully he comes back to the east and can become someone relevant again

September 28, 2008  02:48 PM ET

first, I'm a Red Sox fan and a Dodger fan. I do think Manny went about it the wrong way to get out of Boston, with that said, we do not know what went on behind the scenes. Maybe the Sox told he "no Trade", maybe he felt they backed him into a corner. Can't blame Manny 100% when the wholde story hasn't been told.

September 28, 2008  03:03 PM ET

Bravesfan15 - - LOL....Dodgers have been burned in the past with big signings...Jason Schmidt, Andreu Jones, etc...look for Manny to be in pinstrips next year as he has already made the claim he WANTS to play for the Yankees...so long Manny, it was a blast having you here, thanks for re-sparking life into Dodger fans...

September 28, 2008  03:29 PM ET

I'm positive the Dodgers will not resign Manny. Giving a guy who is closer to 40 than 30 at least $20 million a year for at least 4 years is insane. If McCourt is a smart business man then he knows better than to make such an unwise investment. Remember this is a contract year for Manny...of course he's going to be all nice and sweet to the fans and media and of course he will play hard and run hard. Then when he gets his riches there will be odds taken as to when he has his first meltdown.
