Martinez likely to pitch in '09, but not with Mets

Pedro Martinez is leaning toward pitching again next season, though it's highly doubtful he will do so with the Mets. Martinez's four-year, $53 million contract with the Mets expired this season, and the club appears unlikely to invest much in a pitcher one year removed from shoulder surgery who turns 37 next month. Martinez's teammates certainly sensed the end of his Mets career yesterday. At least a dozen of them stopped by his locker after the season-ending 4-2 loss to the Marlins, with a distraught Carlos Beltran even collapsing in tears on Martinez's shoulder for several minutes.

They should restock their shelves. What a bunch of chokers. Nothing else to say really.....I am at a loss for words.

Love to see him in Boston as an insurance policy to Buchholz for the #5 place in the rotation.

September 29, 2008  07:52 AM ET

LOL, stupid mets

September 29, 2008  08:17 AM ET

Hahahahahahahahaha, the Mets chocked 2 years ina row!
It was great seeing all their depressed faces at Shea!
Enjoy watching the playoffs w/o the Mets!

September 29, 2008  08:21 AM ET

This is all Willie Randolfs fault.....Fitting way to close the history of Shea.....

September 29, 2008  08:27 AM ET

The Mets didn't choke this year, they just stink.

September 29, 2008  08:28 AM ET

Team CHOKE lived up to its expectations once again! The Muts have set the new standard for end of season collapses. What a horse-sheet of a team. Money well spent on Santana, huh! How can the Muts not make the playoffs with a 3 1/2 game lead with 3 weeks to play? What a pathetic bunch of chokin' losers. HA HA HA HA. How 'bout that bullpen!!!!!!!!!! They are probably the worst 'pen in the history of bullpens! HAHAHAHAHAHA

Mr over-rated Beltran was cryin' like a **** in the locker room afterwards.

September 29, 2008  08:40 AM ET

Never mind the bullpen......they couldn't do anything with RISP. And I think they only scored 5 runs in that series against FLA.

ain't NO WAY he'd go back to boston after they let him got to free agency

Pedro, Boston will always love you, and there's a home here for you...maybe not for a big dollar, multi-year contract...but we'll give you something to hang your hat here.

September 29, 2008  09:12 AM ET

Did Pedro pitch for the Muts this year? I think he just showed up on the mound every five days and stole money! Check that, every 20 days, he was constantly hurt.........and not very good to boot!

September 29, 2008  09:29 AM ET

Who in their right mind would give Pedro a multi-year, big money contract?!

Where is the dumb-arse clown at?......Ususally he is running that makeup faced mouth about how the Phillies suck, have no starting pitching, the human windmill, etc..........

September 29, 2008  10:22 AM ET

Personally I did not see choking, I saw a weak bullpen.

I believe he is in hiding along with the rest of the Mets fans. At least the clown makes valid points at times, unlike the morons who will probably never see again talking about how great the Mets are until the lose. Actually, they've probably already moved on to talk about the Giants since they don't really care about their team when they stink.

Maybe the mets bullpen should go in hiding, like the witness protection program so their fans, what's left of them, won't hunt them down.
