France wants second Cup race for Kansas

Brian France and Mike Helton, two of NASCAR's most powerful decision-makers, left little doubt that Kansas Speedway will have a second Sprint Cup race as soon as 2010 and no later than 2011. France's sister, Lesa France Kennedy, president of International Speedway Corporation, owner of Kansas Speedway, has committed to asking NASCAR's board of directors for a second Sprint Cup weekend now that the $700 million Hard Rock Hotel and Casino project will be part of the facility. That should be a formality, considering the board is made up of Kennedy, France, their uncle, NASCAR vice-chairman Jim France; and two of their trusted executives, NASCAR secretary/general counsel Gary Crotty and Helton, NASCAR president.

One less race Bruton Smith to get his hands on.
I wonder were he thinks he is going to get a race for Kentucky from?

September 29, 2008  08:26 AM ET

Take it from 'Dega.

September 29, 2008  09:38 AM ET

Passed and approved, so voted. What's next on the agenda?

September 29, 2008  09:38 AM ET

might as well give up the daytona 500 for another cookie cutter track

September 29, 2008  10:17 AM ET

Great...another race at a mile and a half track. Just what the circuit needs.

I second that Fontana sux

September 29, 2008  11:55 AM ET

why not take it from a track that doesn't sell out, and if they don't sell out another race take another race from another track.. why doesn't Darlington have 2 races never seems to have a problem selling tickets... need to look at the demographic's of the sport..

Well Darlington did have a problem there for a while, but now they are doing better. ALSO I second the motion of taking Fontana's race. And I push the order to remove one of Pocono's races. I love the track, but only once a year is fine. Don't give it to Kentucky though same ole track. Give it to lets SAY Darlington ( Chase race )

I second the motion. Two a year there was cool until they added Indy. That, plus the races are too close together. I mean, if anything, dump a cookie cutter from the chase and put the 2nd Pocono race there if you're going to have two.

September 29, 2008  12:48 PM ET

Heck, while we're add it, swap Louden and Watkins Glen...kick off the chase on a road course. Kinda stupid to have two road courses to get TO the chase, then none in it. If the championship is based on a late-season hot streak rather than year-long consistency, at least have it go to the most well-rounded team/driver.

Pocono OR New Hampshire. Two races at those tracks is insane to me.

Think the term is 'nepotism', Shave. Speaking of ol Buschy....the guy needs lessons in humilty and grace under fire. At least he spoke with reporters after, but the guy definitely needs some class.......
