Schiano critical of Rutgers offense

On a purely optimistic or pessimistic level, Greg Schiano considers himself a glass-half-full kind of guy. But after his team's first victory of the season Saturday afternoon against Morgan State, that glass doesn't seem to be filled with champagne. Seems more like sour milk. During his weekly day-after conference call with reporters yesterday, Schiano wasted little time on praising what went right during the 38-0 win, opting rather for criticism. Schiano was notably irked about a number of areas on his team. Chief among them was the running game and the protection and blocking of the offensive line. And any inkling that the absence of star left tackle Anthony Davis due to a one-game suspension would buy them a free pass was quickly ruled out. One point of Schiano's focus seemed to be on the lack of solid blocking at the fullback position. Jack Corcoran, a junior from Atlantic City, seemed to miss two blocks during the course of the game on Saturday. However, Schiano wasn't ready to say that a change needs to be made.

Just what is this guys point?...Never has a coach whose teams cannot beat good competition got so much good press...I am sure his players really need to be told how bad they are now.

Sorry but "Seems more like sour grapes" would have been better.

I think Schiano just realized his best days at Rutgers have passed.

September 29, 2008  07:51 PM ET

Rutgers was the first to play and is still the last to win.

Schiano = one of the most over-rated and over-hyped coaches in recent memory... based on ONE good season in the big east, people actually expected a perennial doormat to start competing

OK, so am I to assume all you guys above are not included in the crazy list of verbal commits Schiano somehow racked up last spring and summer? At least ESPN is finally off the bandwagon after Erin Andrews got dissed a few Thursday nights back...

I think the light just came on for Schiano, who only now realizes why wise coaches leave programs such as this IMMEDIATELY after they have their first good season! I'm betting he is out of there if he finishes above .500 and gets an offer . . . from anywhere!

He's gotten verbals because kids get caught up in the same stupid hype and don't really know whats going on...lets see if he can continue that recruiting trail...if he even stays at RU

Glad he didn't...he's not that good...an above average coach at best, plus he's headed for PSU eventually
