One of the first things Doug Melvin did was send a message to Ned Yost. After the New York Mets fell, 4-2, to Florida on Sunday afternoon, securing the National League wild-card berth for the Milwaukee Brewers, their general manager didn't forget the skipper who put the club in position to do it. "I sent Ned an e-mail," said Melvin, who became emotional while talking about the manager he fired with 12 games left in the season. "He went through 93% of the season. I backed Ned and supported him."

this will be a busy one this morning......

September 29, 2008  07:47 AM ET

Yost should get a ring if they happen to win it all, though

September 29, 2008  07:53 AM ET

Something tells me Yost will be rooting for the Cubs.

September 29, 2008  08:19 AM ET

I fired you but I support you??????What the heck does that mean? Now there is a man whose word means something....

Are you in junior high school?

The NY Muts once again proved what they really are! A bunch of overpaid under-achievers. They set the standard for September futility. And by the way, they REALLY do suck, especially that putrid bullpen! HAHAHAHAHA............

The NL wild card was basically a contest in who wanted it least.
Real classy having the ceremony to close Shea after the game rather then before. I only wish the game would have started on time so the Brewer game could have officially ended during the ceremony.
Nice job with the fireworks while it was still daylight as well. And somehow Mookie Wilson and Davy Johnson couldn't make it. Nothing like the manager who won the only title in the last 22 years and the guy involve in the biggest play in francise history being too busy to get there. What the hell could Mookie be doing?

The T&R guys have a sense of humor this morning.

September 29, 2008  10:17 AM ET

I thought it was with an iota of class that he thanked Yost.

Minaya needs to take responsibility for not getting bullpen help in any way shape or form, a bit of an exageration, this season.

It appears as if the FanNation admin who posted this thread is a Mets fan. What other explanation could there be for the choice of image attached to the story?

The porn reference was unnecessary..... I was about to start lunch.... I had to scrape all of the mayo off my sandwich.....
