The Twins have had internal talks about a contract extension for manager Ron Gardenhire, whose $2.5 million, two-year deal expires after next season.

Duh

They lost Santana, Hunter and Garza and only had Liriano for half the season and the Twins weren't out of it until game 163. Gardenhire has to finish 2nd for the AL Manager of the Year behind Maddon.

The Twins would be nuts not to keep Gardenhire.

This article has no business on T&R. No further comments needed. I think Cassidy's post says it all. No chance they don't extend him. It was just a blurb in Walter's column.

the twins are a good team, they have been good with Gardenhire, and they should extend him. then they should go and spend some money and bring some talent in and bring people into the new outdoor stadium that they need to pay for it

Awesome move by the Twins. Gardenhire has proven to be a genius in Minnesota orchestrating the past season like he did all the way to a one game playoff with the White Sox. It was one game closer to the postseason that Johan got.

Maybe they can bring Kent Hrbek back. That way he can throw some baserunners around and get them called out. I bet the Twins would win it all then...it happened once before, as I recall.

October 1, 2008  01:13 PM ET

No brainer. Geez how dumb are they to even report this? Geez how dumb are they to even ponder his extension?

October 1, 2008  03:59 PM ET

The manager is the highest paid person on the roster? Refreshing!!!!

Hell, bring Danny Gladden back while you're at it. Or even Kirby Puckett, oh wait he's worm food

Was that one outta line?

October 1, 2008  04:46 PM ET

Every year the Twins lose key players to free agency or they trade them away; yet every year Gardenhire manages to keep them in the thick of the playoff race. KEEP HIM!!

October 1, 2008  05:07 PM ET

Gotta keep him. Look back at the past Manager of the Year awards. He's like second every year.

October 1, 2008  05:09 PM ET

Plus he sings the best "Take Me Out to the Ballgame".

October 1, 2008  05:29 PM ET

He really is the best manager in baseball. Nobody has done more with less every single year.

Uh-oh, sounds like a cry-baby Braves fan. Poor thing. That's RIGHT, you DID lose the World Series to us, didn't you. Dang that's still gotta smart. ;)

Twins got robbed this week.....winning the season series against the Sox should have counted for something.....like a home game in the play-in game.

October 1, 2008  10:01 PM ET

As a w. sox fan, I hope the cut him loose...or some other team pick him up. For God's sake Twins...pay the man more money and sign him for as long as you can.

October 1, 2008  10:34 PM ET

The Twins success has very little to do with Gardenhire. Their sustained success is a result of the efforts of Terry Ryan (previous GM), Bill Smith (current GM), and Deron Johnson (director of scouting). They consistently make good trades and draft well to keep their minor leagues filled with talent ready to help when they inevitably lose their top major league talent to free agency.
