Oregon expected to start backup QB

If looks count for anything, Oregon sophomore quarterback Jeremiah Masoli appeared as relaxed as can be while walking into and out of Wednesday's closed practice at Autzen Stadium. Masoli remained atop the quarterback depth chart as fellow sophomore Justin Roper missed another practice with a mysterious illness. Roper, who has been out since the Purdue game with a partially torn MCL, has missed the first three practices this week. The fear is that he could have mononucleosis, a viral infection that has been known to sideline athletes for lengthy periods of time. Coach Mike Bellotti said that Roper was feeling "slightly better" Wednesday, but was anxious to see his medical test results.

Get healthy, let's have a good game. But, a better game on the USC side.

Daren should be the started...burn his red-shirt and then not play him. Oregon coaches look bad...really bad

I don't know Bellotti looks pretty good in that picture.........

Masoli ran the offense pretty well last week. Of course that was against Wash. St.
But he appears to be gaining confidence and learning the offense. I just wish Oregon St. hadn't went and pulled that upset and pi&&ed the Trojans off right before the Ducks have to play them.
GO DUCKS!!

Let Masoli play. Ducks just need to run Johnson and Blount right down USC's throat!

DUCKS 35, USC 28

Thought I'd add a touch of reality to these comments.. given that I am not a fan of either the Ducks or the Trojans. This is a mismatch. USC by 20.

October 2, 2008  08:34 PM ET

Mike Ridenhour: This is a mismatch.

Hmmm... where have I seen that before? Oh yeah, last week. Anything can happen and HAS happened.

#1 When was the last time Trojans lost back to back games? Answer...before Carrol was the coach. USC 42-17

#2 Of course Oregonwill start there back-up QB. The starter went down before the season started. Every since then its been a back-up and especially when they lose, its "because we played the back-up".

#3 Daren is not the starter because nobody starts the game off in Prevent Defense so you will have him out there doing nothing for you. His passes looked like crap in the BSU game and if it wasn't for great hands on the receivers, he would not have gotten 1/3 of them completions.
