Bill Murray has advice for Cubs

Bill Murray has not lost hope. In fact, the life-long Cubs fan has some advice for the ailing boys in blue. "They're not out of it yet, it's baseball," said Murray, during a Friday interview with the Tribune to promote his new movie "City of Ember." He also offered some predictions and advice for Saturday's game. "I think they're going to try to win it a different way. Maybe some more left bats. Against Derek Lowe, only the left-handed hitters have a chance because of the way he pitches," said the Wilmette native, 58. Murray continued: "I think they're going to put more left-handed hitters in their line-up. I think [manager Lou Piniella] will put [Mark] DeRosa in right. I think he's very disappointed in [Kosuke] Fukudome. I think he's gonna play [Mike] Fontenot. I think he might try [Felix] Pie in center."

Sounds like he's given this more thought than Lou. Fukudome had no business playing, he's been terrible in aug and sept and there was no indication he was coming around. He still flails away at bat. The MLB season is longer than what he is used to in Japan and it really shows, he looks tired and worn out. Still, with no offense and all the errors, you can't pin it on just one guy.

Advice? Stop sucking? So much for FOX's blue steel ****, hard on, wet dream of an all Chicago WS.

I totally agree! Fukudome had no business being out there!

Seems like old Torre took Lou to school! He has outmanged him by a mile!

First thing the Cubs need to do in the offseason is get rid of the pitching coach, Larry Rothschild. All season long the relief pitchers (with the exception of a couple of outing here and there) have been unable to come in and throw strikes, instead they come in and walk batters left and right. They got by mainly on the offense, but lack of middle relief has killed them in the post season. Dempster should have been pulled by the 4th, he had no control whatsoever but Lou had no options.

Umm no...how could you say that...must not of watched any baseball this season.

We are tlaking about major league Cubs, not Daytona.

I watched the vast majority of the games and went to five at Wrigley, and two in Milwaukee. How many games did you go to? Or watch?

When was the last time Rothschild developed a pitcher? Look at his track record. Kerry Wood (not Woods), Mark Pryor? Why wasn't he working with Jeff Szamardja who now can't seem to find the strike zone when that was his forte in the minors?

Bill Murray's always good for a quote. He's a huge ball fan. He even used to be part owner of a minor league team. He's been a huge ball fan for twice as long as most people on this board have been alive.
