Mackenzi Adams lost the Vanderbilt starting quarterback's job prior to the start of the season. He made his bid to get the starting position Saturday night after relieving an injured Chris Nickson and leading the No. 19 Commodores to a 14-13 win against No. 13 Auburn on Saturday night at Vanderbilt Stadium. It marked the second consecutive game Adams led Vanderbilt (5-0, 3-0) to SEC wins after Nickson left the game with a shoulder injury.

I wish Auburn would fire the offensive coordinator the vandy offense looked good with Adams in, but the Auburn defense was wore out from the offense not moving the ball, this is Vandys year

What the hell is going on at Auburn? Did they hire Jeff Bowden as their offensive coordinator?

October 5, 2008  12:20 PM ET

Auburn looks impotent. Fine by me . They will forever be defined as the team that went for the tie vs. Syracuse in a bowl game......Pat Dye in a nutshell...Karma can be Hell.

A QB controversy @ Vanderbilt.

I have now seen everything.

Whoever is voting for Auburn needs to reevaluate their votes. Barely beating an enemic Tennessee team and this game with Vandy? I am actually quite upset with Vandy for not beating them up and down the field. Congrats Vandy on a great season.....don't let it go to your head, keep on winning!

GOOO DORES!!!! Thanks for the bragging rights for the week and possibly the year!!!!

There is no QB controversy- it's the defense that is completely without controversy, and it is the defense and ATTITUDE that has won, and will continue to win, games for vandy. i am so proud as an alum to see a program that is run with integrity running over the competition.

Dude It's Vanderbilt! They SUCK!

October 5, 2008  09:32 PM ET

Dude, my 'Dores *did* suck, but now they're 5-0!

October 5, 2008  10:03 PM ET

They put it on Tubby. That alone should give Bobby Johnson groupy rights.

I'm from Tulsa (Adams hometown) and thus wouldn't mind seeing a homeboy do well but I think a player should NEVER lose his position due to error. I thought Adams would win the position but after seeing Nickson play I can see why he won out.

I'd go w/ Nickson knowing full well that you have a very capable backup in Adams. A good problem to have for an up-and-coming program that is Vandy!

Right, nothing wears a defense down that its own offense's ineptness. They were on the field far too long!

Larry Smith from Prattville should start ahead of both of them, he's raw but got more talent and and needs to be on the field.

Yea, vandy should definitely start a redshirt freshmen at QB who has never played a down of college ball over two redshirt seniors that have only given vandy their best start in half a century. Let me guess, short bus to school?

tell me that when Vandy loses to Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Wake Forest...so that will make those two redshirt seniors 7-5 as starter correct? then who with starting experience is going to start next season? Let me guess "a QB who has never played a down of college ball." Another thing let me know how it's going come January in Columbus after another BCS diaster involving "The" Ohio State University.

hey tons of fun, Adams is a redshirt JUNIOR. And Nickson is a reshirt Senior which means he has one more year of eligibility.

and even if they were graduating, why in gods name would a program that hasn't been to a bowl game since 1982 give a crap about next year's QB when they're 5-0 and ranked in the Top-15?

and don't get all cocky that your Gators are will win easy. The Dores beat the Ole Miss team on the road that owned Tebow and Co. a couple weeks back.

maybe because they want to have back-2-back winning seasons, or I don't know go to consecutive bowl games, just a thought...enjoy Northwestern's 7-5 season while we are at it.
