Brewers considering run at Sabathia

The rising small-market Milwaukee Brewers are seriously considering a surprise run at keeping superstar pitcher CC Sabathia, but while Sabathia said he enjoyed his time in Milwaukee very much after the Brewers were eliminated by the Phillies, Brewers people also understand they'd be in over their heads if the bids go well beyond Johan Santana's pitching record $137.5 million, six-year deal. "The Brewers will be in, unless the money gets crazy,'' said one person familiar with their thinking. While the Brewers might consider pushing themselves into the low nine figures (over $100 million) with aggressive owner Mark Attanasio keeping the emphasis on winning, it's hard to imagine Milwaukee staying in a stratospheric bidding war. One competing owner predicted the number is going to be "big,'' meaning way bigger than most folks imagined after Sabathia enhanced his reputation by pitching the Brewers into the playoffs for the first time in 26 years.

I thought Barry Zito's numbers were nuts. $ 23 Mil a year? for 6 yrs? What is this world coming to? I can see it now. America's past time filing bankruptcy. Complete liquidation. Players losing thier jobs. Congress coming in to bail the league out. Taxpayers revolt. Riots break out in the big cities. Homeless putting up tents on the infields. The MLB is dead. The government bans baseball. All is lost. But then the sun begins to shine. Young atheletes boldly begin to form their own teams. Traveling around the US playing exhibition games and passing the hat. A new day has dawned. This is my idea Hollywood. I demand Millions for my script. The cycle starts again. Now it's a movie.....

I apologize in advance for this spew.

Oh man. I hope they sign him. I really do.....then when his arm falls off in May of next year, they can complain about how every time a small market opens up the check book, something unfortunate and unforeseeable happens.

Good thing CC likes Miller Lite... The most delish of all Lite beers... Less filling too!

They'll approach $100 million? That's fantastic, except Sabathia will probably be looking in the 125-150 range that Santana got last offseason.

Miller Lite is god awful. I'd rather be sober. Sure it has a lot of taste but I would imagine battery acid does as well.

Mornin all.

JFK,
Where've you been. I was about to start checking abandoned cars on the BQE for your bloated corpse.

With 260 innings this year CC may very well have issues next year.
