USC quarterback Mark Sanchez suffered a bone bruise in his left knee against Oregon and "has a chance to play" this week against Arizona State, Coach Pete Carroll said Sunday. Mitch Mustain, who passed for a touchdown against Oregon, would start if Sanchez could not play, Carroll said. Mustain completed five of eight passes for 111 yards and a touchdown with one interception against Oregon.

I believe Mitch Mustain is a better Quaterback than Mark Sanchez, I guess we'll find out.

October 6, 2008  08:06 AM ET

Wow, last week Mustain was 4th string. What happened?

October 6, 2008  08:11 AM ET

The QB dosen't matter....... its a great system look at palmer & leinart

October 6, 2008  09:23 AM ET

Mustain put up some decent stats in the Oregon game and this kid does have winning starting experience at Arkansas so he should be all right if called upon.

A week happened...... things change. Competition Tuesday changes things.

Thanks Pac-10 refs for not calling a "horse-collar" tackle penalty on that play that Sanchez got injured. Wasn't it for reasons like this they instituted that penalty??? They sure were not shy in calling it against USC in the Oregon St. game even when they were not technically horse-collar tackles. Time for Pac-10 referee overhaul.

Is that the reason? Or was Coach Carroll just not able to secure Sanchez's work-release from the Los Angeles County Correctional System this week?

Is it really a bone bruise, or was Coach Carroll just not able to secure Sanchez's work-release from the Los Angeles County Correctional System this week?

October 6, 2008  12:44 PM ET

Oops, sorry for the double post. Bad connection or something...

October 6, 2008  12:51 PM ET

If Sanchez can't play and Carrol doesn't start Mustain, will Mustain's mom complain to the media again like she did at Arkansas?

October 6, 2008  01:12 PM ET

Is USC and the Pac 10 for real or what?????????????

October 6, 2008  01:28 PM ET

What's is crazy is that the QB has to be out of the pocket for a horse-collar to be called. BS if you ask me, Sanchez almost got his leg bent backwards. (by is ex-teammate) As for Mustain, that was just a taste of it. Starting for the Trojans at home. This kid will definitely bring it! Hopefully Sark will keep the play calling run heavy to help him out. Great balance overall this last game.

Fight On!

Sanchez is an immature QB who will not be able to lead USC out of trouble. In the OSU game, he was running around telling his teammates that they were not done yet when they had OSU's numbers. That is not leadership! (I am not an OSU fan.)

So, you're implying that USC should be a lot better team than they are right now?

Just think, they are #10 material and some folks still have them penciled in for the NCG...imagine what a real quarterback would do!

No, we're loaning him to the SEC conference for their camp "The art of throwing a completed forward pass". Apparently, half the SEC teams have signed up. Auburn was first in line.

Hehe, don't mind BigFletchDog. He's a good guy.

He just like his meat a lil' spicy, if you know what I mean.

And, if you can't laugh at yourself, you shouldn't be laughing at others.

If we just run the damn ball...after all, it is Tailback U.

Dammit, Silars, I hate it when you USC guys come with something witty. Takes all the fun out of trying to get under your skin.

Jabril1217, I'd hide those USC bumper stickers living that close to Athens. Some of those rednecks boys "might not take too kindly to one of them there Californee-hippie-types" among the silver-pant faithful. LOL...
