Weis: Time for Plan B kicker

The day after Notre Dame missed two more field goals, making the Irish 1-for-7 for the season and 7-for-20 since the start of 2007, coach Charlie Weis said it's time for Plan B. Because his options are limited, Plan B likely will involve junior Ryan Burkhart assuming the field-goal duties from Brandon Walker, whose two misses in a 28-21 victory over Stanford on Saturday were his 11th and 12 in 19 attempts dating to last season. Walker's misses have been somewhat confounding because he has proved himself reliable on extra points, and his leg is strong enough that distance is rarely an issue. ''We definitely have to explore Ryan kicking field goals,'' Weis said Sunday. ''Because in Brandon's case, it's not obviously a case of being able to kick it high enough or far enough. When you're 1 out of 7 kicking field goals, it just doesn't cut it.'' Walker made four of his first five attempts after winning the job last season. The left-footed sophomore is 2-for-14 beyond 30 yards since then. In fairness, poor snaps and holds have contributed to the unit's unreliability. What the statistics don't reflect are the many times Weis has opted not to attempt a field goal because he knew the unit was struggling.

From what practice reports say...Walker is by far the best kicker...which is not good for ND. I think Plan B should be....let Jimmy throw it to Floyd or Rudolph for 7 yards.

Give your Linebacker a flat toed shoe and kick 'em the old fashioned way.

Ya they're used to sucking by now. Weis is an overrated fat lump of crap.

So, is it just me, or does Weis look like Porky (from "Porky's"...duh) in that picture?

"Oh, Porkyyyy, the boys from Angel Beach are hereeeeee..."

I'm an Irish fan and yes, the kicking game sucks. If they aren't careful the kicker is going to kill someone in the band or a mascot! The Irish have already gotten a commitment from Nick Tausch from Dallas, TX for next year, he was also recruited by LSU and Oklahoma. But, for this year they will either have to punt, or go for it on short yardage.

I think you should kick for them Miyagi. You've done pretty well in the past against overwhelming odds...

The crane method is only good out to, maybe 35 yards!

I don't think he wants to do that. Rumor has it that the Irish are already looking at John Kreese as a possible replacement to Charlie Weis.

They are just having trouble tracking him down. He was last seen heading to an urgent care facility in Encino with bandages over his knuckles - hasn't been heard from since.

It's time for a Plan B coach

October 6, 2008  03:48 PM ET

G Squad, I didn't quite catch your team, what is it? BC or Rutgers? And why are you on this site, your mommy hid your dolls from you?

The FG kicker is the problem, little girl, not the coach! Guess your not familure with that notion. Every team has this issue, at some point, ms clown.

Now go back to sucking your thum and quit pouting about ND issues.

October 6, 2008  04:22 PM ET

yeah walker is having a bad year, let someone else kick. Anybody but walker!!!

Gee, what an insightful comment. He wins, he loses anyway. G-Squish, come back when Iowa wins 2 games in a row again.

October 6, 2008  06:04 PM ET

Funny Mrmiag...Does Reggie Ho having any eligibility left? Isn't ND good at soccer? Go grab one of them that's what Lou used to do.

October 6, 2008  06:08 PM ET

Why the hell is ND on here every week despite being totally irrelevant? All their wins have come against crap competition (the michigan game was handed to them) and yet every week they're in T&R. Notre Dame sucks. Cover something more interesting.

October 6, 2008  06:40 PM ET

Why don't you go read something more intersting and stop whinning.

You, sir, are clearly not an executive at NBC sports, are you?

Stop with the Michigan handed ND the game. Same field same conditions. I guess ND fans should keep complaining too that we gave MSU the game. We didn't ,we sucked and that's the end of it. Go take those comments somewhere else. The other thing about ND being on here all the time I would have to agree with and I'm a ND fan. But you ND haters like to comment every week so they'll keep throwing ND irrelevancy on here. GO ND!!
