White Sox GM plans offseason changes

White Sox fans should fasten their seat belts for what should be a wild winter. "I know what I want to do," general manager Ken Williams said Monday night after the Sox were eliminated from the postseason by Tampa Bay. "I've known what I've wanted to do for three months." Williams seems so convinced of his intentions that he plans a "very condensed" version of the annual organizational meetings held in the fall in the Phoenix area. Williams wasn't specific, but the Sox's pedestrian style caused them to rely heavily on home runs. They stole only 67 bases, and Orlando Cabrera was forced to move from the second spot to the leadoff position for the final five months of the season. Cabrera led the Sox with 19 stolen bases. Cabrera said returning to the Sox is an option, but he's likely to sign elsewhere while the Sox try to acquire a true leadoff hitter through trade or free agency. "We've got to do some things," Williams said. "We've got to do some things to balance this out more, offensively and defensively." This could mean trying to move at least one of their players with some type of no-trade rights. First baseman Paul Konerko has full no-trade rights and is signed through 2010 at $12 million annually.

Is one of the changes preventing Orlando Cabrera from doing goofy "Error" Dances? He'd get a flag for that in the NFL.

i really dont see any good trade bait on this team if thats what you're going to try..

as far as free agency, i dont think the sox would come anywhere close to getting the talent they want out of there....

first off, i dont see anything that would fit what that team needs, and i dont see that many good options for pitching either...

wait, no way...Kdubb talking about acquiring grinders again with speed? is this 2007? no wait, 200...6?? seriously, deja vu. he talks the talk but never walks the walk when it is about stealing and dudes who can play small ball. he did well with johnny danks, Q, and ramirez is a beast but let go of The OC and acquire somebody at 2nd in case Getz isn't the guy they think he is. two mainstays, paulie and joe joe are gone. crede will ask for too much(his agent is borass ya know) and paulie gave us nothing for most of the season. get...rid...of...vasquez. they can trade 2-3 guys and free up tens of millions to sign/trade for better dudes. it's not as drastic as it was last year, thank god

Hey leave good ol' punchy-cheeks alone! I agree though, if he's on your team you love him, if you're playing against him he's a carbunkle on your arse! Kinda like Bill Laimbeer on the Pistons......

I have to agree with your comment. I have never seen a bigger "Ahole" than this jerk. He is disliked by everyone.

It's simple:
- Don't resign Uribe
- Don't resign Griffey
- Get a bullpen
- Trade Javier Vasquez or Jose Contreras & Get another starter.
- Give Nick Swisher a job in Center Field, he's a productive member of any lineup.

the best they should do trade the older pitchers don't sign uribe and griffey maybe thome for 1 yr. get a startng pitcher and bullpen help....

Swisher was a cancer this year what are you talking about he hit .214 and did nothing at all the last 40 games when we needed him, I do not care about 24 hrs, Josh Fields hit 23 in half a season in 07, you know how many times Swisher took strike 3 looking with men on base this year.

Listen Swisher sucks and so does OC, those 2 are gone for sure. So is Home Run Javy and "Mr. Glass" Ken Griffey. It will be a different team next year no doubt, I'm just scared A.J. Burnett could be on the South Side. He has been a long time K Dub favorite. This is a team that had no business winning the division and somehow they took advantage of an overall weak group of teams. I wouldn't blow it up but the obvious weight needs to be shed. There are actually some decent big name free agents this year, and some of them will be looking for teams after the top tier is over-payed for. Oh and don't forget that this team won one more game in the playoffs than those chronic losers from the Northside.

Whitesox fans really need to get over the whole oneupmanship with the Cubs! It really does make you look childish when you have to mention the Cubs every time you talk about the Whitesox. This city is big enough for both teams and the best thing that could happen would be for both teams to be successful!! Stop the Hatin'!!! I wish the Sox all the success in the world until they play the Cubs and you should do the same for your team. My favorite time of the season is when they play each other and hopefully it might be in the World Series in our lifetimes!!!
