Report: Plaxico dodging rental car damages

The Giants shouldn't feel bad. They weren't alone in having a hard time getting in touch with Plaxico Burress. He also has dodged calls from Khoury Alternative Claims Management, a San Antonio-based third-party administrator trying to catch up with the Giants receiver about some damage he did to a rental car. Burress returned a Suburban on June 2 to Epic Car and Truck Rental in Clifton, N.J., with scratches and dents in the bumper. He paid $996.95 for the rental but owed another $1,759 in damages. Burress dropped the car off after hours and never informed anyone of the damages. "A lot of people do that," said Randy Harris, president of Khoury Alternative Claims Management. "Because of the damage they just split." The Giants confirmed they had been contacted by Harris about the issue but refused comment. This is similar to what the Giants often deal with regarding Burress, who has frustrated the team when he has blown off his responsibilities. Epic could not get the money from Burress and sent the matter to Khoury. "He put down Allstate as his insurance and when we contacted them they said they don't have a policy for him," Harris said. Repeated attempts by Khoury to contact Burress were unsuccessful and representatives from Khoury finally called the Giants, getting hold of Charles Way, the team's director of player development. "He said he'd try his best to speak to Plaxico and get it paid," Harris said. "When we called him back he said, 'Man, I'm trying.' " If no payment is secured, Khoury will send the file to a collection agency. Epic can take Burress to small claims court if it so desires. "No response at all," a disgusted Harris said. "He's a bum."

Sounds like he should hire someone to drive his kid to school next time. Better for everyone. i know he will get a lot of bad comments today, and deservedly so. The only good thing I can think to say about the guy outside of football is that at least his problems are not with drugs or street violence. Seems he has some real maturity issues.

Plax is a great WR, but a dirtball of a human. That is why the Steelers shipped him.

October 8, 2008  07:10 AM ET

It would be nice to read an article now and then about a multi-million dollar professional athlete who has a normal degree of maturity and who does the "right thing" most of the time.

His "kid" is 21 months old. What school is there for a 21 month year old? I call BS on his excuse.

Maybe it's another kid. Baby mama drama...you know how it is.

Gosh this guy is a piece of work...I can't stand the sight of him. Such an irresponsible and inconsiderate selfish human being.

October 8, 2008  08:08 AM ET

Nevermind his responsibility to the organization, how about his being responsible for his actions period. My God, joe average citizen would have already been slapped with a lawsuit and had his credit card frozen.

No, it's not. Plax just played the "I'm a good father" card. Which he might be. But he should have accepted his punishment and came back.

As I posted on the TO thread, I'm going to do my part and ignore these inane threads. Sorry about my post above. I will ignore from now on. Let me know when a real sports story appears.

Rental car places pull scams like that all the time. They know where scratches and dents on the cars and when you decline the insurance they go out and you're busted. But seriously, how does someone with all that money need to rent a car? LOL.

October 8, 2008  08:21 AM ET

The drama continues.

Oh yeah, its the rental car people. /rolls eyes

Its not the pieces of **** who rent them right? You know...the jackasses who use every bit of fuel, go over the miles, damage the vehicle...then say, "I didnt know I would be liable. You never told me I had to pay for fuel. I was never informed of a charge per mile."

The fact that anyone defends him <Burress> by saying the rental car company is running a scam is delusional. He has now demonstrated repeatedly, with different teams, what a total crap bag he is.

And as for talent...he might be the 23rd best reciever in the league.

<People rent cars when they A) crash theirs B)are in a city where they have no car c) are doing things with that car that they do not want to do in their own>

I've rented plenty of cars and have never had a problem. Maybe it's Plaxico's fault? Just maybe..
