Jarvis Jones, who is an AJC Super 11 selection and ranked as the state's No. 2 prospect by Rivals, confirmed that he will no longer be taking an official visit to Texas on Oct. 18. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Jones, however, did not say whether he planned to reschedule the Texas visit, and if so, for which date. Jones is in the process of setting up an official visit to Southern Cal for early November. His other finalists are Clemson, LSU, Georgia, Florida and Miami. The secretive Jones has yet to reveal any other official visits.

No doubt Jones would be a good recruit... but the great thing about Texas is that their are good recruits almost everywhere. with or without Jones, Tx recruiting class is gonna be strong

Texas will be fine even without this kid.

No Darrell Scott, no Jones.... no problem. My only concern is with Sherrod Harris and Chiles as back up's to Colt will Garrett Gilbert get any playing time the next two years? I don't think Mac planned on Colt being THIS good; Harris NEEDS to be the No. 2 QB or transfer because he really has what it takes to be an elite NCAA QB. This is what happens when you are a great recruiter: you get too stacked and hinder the development of good/great players. Jevan Snead realized this quickly... how long will it take Harris before he leaves UT so that he can make a name for himself elsewhere? Hook 'Em

If you listen to the so called experts I don't see who would have thought Texas was ever in the running for this kid. He's from Georgia. 5 of the 7 schools he was considering were either SEC or ACC schools. I would have bet money that he will pick one of those five schools not because Texas or USC aren't worthy or perhaps even the best choice he could have made but because he obviously is focused on something close to home. I would think it a compliment that Texas was being considered at all rather than viewing it as some sort of dig that they were cut. I guess it dpends on the slant you chose to pander. The fact is Texas was one of only two schools outside the SEC and ACC he was considering in the first place.

I guess he didn't want to lose to Oklahoma every year.

I don't know about this year, tis going to be a good game.

UT doesn't need this kid, if his heart ain't in it then there's no use in trying to get him in Texas. He'll end up at some SEC school, that's where he wants to go.

No way. I've got OU by a mile.

October 8, 2008  10:39 PM ET

This guy is "supposed" to be very good and if I had to bet I would say he's NOT going to play for my Dawgs since we have 3 LB's committed already. I thought he was high on Bama??? maybe not...

October 8, 2008  11:08 PM ET

I don't see a school on his list that would be a bad choice

I agree with Jabril..

Mac needs to step his game up. do like pete carroll, recruit all the talent so the competition wont have any. every school needs five 5 star tailbacks.

That s why they make them actually play the game.

October 9, 2008  04:25 PM ET

I also had OU by a mile against Boise State and half a mile against WVU...oops.

October 9, 2008  07:46 PM ET

Clemson? They just have pretty girls there, why else would a kid at this level consider them? Sorry Clemson fans but your program is not getting to the level expected by almost everyone...

For some reason you can never count out Clemson. TB cant coach worth a ___ but he can recruit somehow.
