Why T.O. cried on sideline

When Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens reached the sideline Sunday following a game-clinching touchdown reception against the Bengals, he began to cry. Tuesday afternoon on the Michael Irvin Show, Owens said the death of a family member and an emotional talk with his pastor, Anthony Gardner, led to his tears. The night before the game, Gardner told Owens he would cry on the sideline and told him to profess his love for God in the news conference following the game. "It was a rough week," Owens said. "I even had a family member pass, and I didn't make any mention of that. "That wasn't anybody's business. I had my mom call me, and she was very reluctant to tell me that. I was playing with a heavy heart." Owens wouldn't reveal who passed away. The Cowboys receiver said he was stunned by local and national criticism over the perception that he's a selfish player. "I'm not a perfect person," Owens said. "My life is still under construction, but don't judge me by what you think I am or what you think I meant in what I said. "I've made my mistakes, and they [media] listen to my comments and they dissect those comments and they make what they want out of them, but I know who I am at heart."

Calling Dr. Jeckyll... calling Dr. Jeckyll, could you please report to Hidden Valley Ranch? Urgent.

October 8, 2008  08:03 AM ET

OMG - that almost makes me want to "like him". He is human and misunderstood like so many rock stars ala Brittany and Keith Richards.

Nah - still hate him. Cant get beyond the front yard reps in front of reporters and calling out McNabb!

The best thing is right next door is a Plaxico thread. Now we can all beat our collective heads against each other all day long. Thank God I have real work to do today.

October 8, 2008  08:07 AM ET

Impossible. Everybody on ESPN and FanNation said he was on the sidelines "sulking". T.O's not allowed to show emotions or be human according to some..

You know, the people at Fannation should be charged with inciting hate. Aren't there laws against this? Between this thread and the Plaxico one, we should see well over 2500 posts and a lot of them will be hateful. Good job FN, way to stimulate a real sports discussion. As a protest, everyone should just not but any posts on these threads. And, I'm not just saying this because it's TO. It's just stupid. This is a "SPORTS" site. How about sports for a change?

I agree alittle. But I don't think they "incite" hate. They're about ratings/hits, point blank. If all they did was post stories about say Wade Phillips installing a new blitz package, people wouldn't care that much. I'm just glad they are giving T.O.'s side of the story fair coverage.

Great, just what I needed on a rainy Wednesday. This is not going to be pretty. Going to another thread to bash Plax.
