The Yankees are cautiously optimistic that Mariano Rivera will be ready for the start of the season following Tuesday's shoulder surgery, but GM Brian Cashman warns that until the closer is back on the mound, there are no guarantees. Rivera underwent a procedure to remove calcification from a joint in his right shoulder Tuesday, a problem that had plagued him for much of the season.

Best to you Mo, even if you come back in May, much warmer then. Get better.

They dont need K-Rod they have JOBA until Mo comes back which will help his inning limit in the start of the season. Then transform him to a starter when MO gets back. I dont think K-rod wants to be a setup man. Especially after his record setting year as a closer. But that would be sweet we can have Joba in the rotation if we had K-rod. Thats just wishful thinking. I dont think K-rod would even consider the Yankees bc of him not being a closer.

I agree with The Original Tony, they need to go out and throw $75 mil at K-Rod, Mo is done. heh heh

I know he's 39, will probably be 39 once the season starts, but he has given no other indication that he is done...

Meant he is 38 now.....

That's why I added the "heh heh"...I agree Truth, Mo isn't done and probably has a few more years in him. As long as he stay on the steroids, he'll pitch into his low 40's and still dominate.

That and also the fact that as a closer, his innings have been pretty much limited for most of his career. Now, with Krod? I think he will pull a Gagne.......

Plus, K-Rod, in terms of actual pitching performance, was like the fifth or sixth best closer in '08.

KRod is not coming to the Yanks so calm that jive down. Yankees already said Joba will start in the pen in 2009 because he didn't meet the innings limit they wanted for him in 2008. It will just happen to coincide with Mo possibly being out for the first month so Joba being the best arm in the pen would become the de facto closer until Mo comes back. And then the Yanks will do more or less the same thing in June where Joba goes to the rotation. Hopefully this time he isn't thrown in there right away and they can afford to send him to AAA to stretch out his pitch count.
