Doctor: Sox wrong about Schilling's shoulder

Curt Schilling could have been ready to pitch in the American League Championship Series, according to his surgeon. Dr. Craig Morgan said yesterday that if the Red Sox had followed his advice to operate on Schilling's shoulder last winter, the righthander likely would have been ready for the postseason. "If the [team] would have let me do the surgery in January, he'd probably be pitching in the playoffs now," Morgan said in a telephone interview. Schilling, who turns 42 next month, missed the entire season after having shoulder surgery in June. The Red Sox won the AL wild card without him. Only 3 1/2 months after the operation was performed, Morgan yesterday described Schilling's shoulder as "phenomenal." Morgan wanted to operate last January, then said during spring training that the only way Schilling might have been able to pitch this season would be if he had surgery. Gill recommended rehabilitation and Schilling went along reluctantly because he was obligated under his contract to follow the team's plan.

Jerkish man with an anger inside him that allows foot in mouth reaction. Yes, a true tool. He wanted sympathy. He wants attention. Has made things up about his family to get attention. A true idiot that believes he can still do things he did ten years ago. Wake-up man and breath the air.

Anything to do with this guy is intolerable to me. Still, why is that Schilling's antics and BS remain acceptable to a good chunk of baseball fans, yet Manny Ramirez is despised by seemingly 99 percent of fans and media (shut up Tim McCarver you idiot). I'm not saying Manny is an angel, but he's no worse than Schilling, yet so many still love this guy. It's sickening.

Yeah, he would have been VERY useful too. The ALDS is definately the time and place for rehab starts.

October 9, 2008  07:45 AM ET

For a change, Schilling is letting his doctor do all the talking. He had no comment on this subject. Surprising!

October 9, 2008  08:05 AM ET

gee thats too bad the Sox would have been out of the playoffs by now if Schilling was pitching. That would have been great.

October 9, 2008  08:21 AM ET

I guess that is why they hav Team Physicians and do not let every Tom, Curt, and Harry give medical opinions and the like. I guess we should not be surprised that Schilling's name and comments or those related to him are popping up left and right. Why doesn't he go stump for McCain or criticize McCain or debate McCain? Go away Curt, tis best for all of us.

October 9, 2008  08:23 AM ET

I can't wait until this guy is done with baseball.

October 9, 2008  08:32 AM ET

What would be great is if he says he wants to come back like Bonds did, but then no one contacts him. Unfortunately I dont think that will happen.

October 9, 2008  09:06 AM ET

Come on Schill, we love you, but you are really pushing it.

October 9, 2008  09:18 AM ET

Apparently nobody really has a clue about Schill. The guy is unreal, sure hes got a big mouth but hes a leader in the clubhouse and one of the most respected guys on the sox. Its easy to dislike him when hes blowing pitches past your favorite teams but when your a Boston fan and he takes the mound in Yankee Stadium with a bloody sock you would have a hard-on for him like myself.

Sweet, make an account and misspell my screen name.

maybe the Doctor could have surgically implanted something into schillings mouth so we would never have to hear him again

Manny quit on our team. Schill would never ever disrespect the game or his teammates like that. Please dont compare Manny and Schill.

I'm sure Curt will eventually **** about this on his website...

October 9, 2008  09:43 AM ET

Pathetic. Curt is irrelevant this offseason and needs to find some way to make himself part of the scene.

Did Curt really want this story to break? Doubt it, his teammates are in a World Series chase, he is irrelevant. Once actually I dont think Curt brought this story up, it seems like his Doctors did. Hes been trying to be left on the back burner this season it seems to me.

offseason = second season. duh. BTW, manny punked out on his team...curt just (stupidly) runs his mouth on anything he see fit to comment on. I think a punk is worse, no?
