Garcia almost certain to start

With starter Brian Griese unable to throw a football because of a sore elbow and shoulder, Jeff Garcia is almost certain to get the start Sunday against the Panthers. Gardia said he has put to rest all of the negative events of the offseason -- the lost playing time bonus, the flirtation with Brett Favre and the benching.

This has got to be killing Gruden to start him.

October 9, 2008  07:57 AM ET

Wow, he looks like a cancer patient.

"the lost playing time bonus"....
And there you have it. The root of " Team Player " Garcia. There is a reason he has been on so many teams, and none of them regretted him moving on.

that comment makes no sense, there IS a reason he's been on so many teams, the guy CAN play. He's no Montana, but you cant refute what he did for them at the end of last year. Gruden is notorious for bencching QB's for stupid reasons. That's why he keeps a stable of them.

G-Squad...OK, but if he is so good , why don't teams keep him. In a league short on QBs and he signing for reasonable money all the time, you would think there would be a trail of teams after him.
He was unable to do anything in the play off game last year. He ws not good enough to make a difference then. Maybe he is one of those guys that looks better at times than he is and football people know it.

these are probably the "girliest" (can you say gay here?) set of headlines in T&R history. think about it: Allen's missing sacks ... chad kisses his coach ... the 0-5 lions (they're pretty girlie - or gay if you can say it here), and to top it off we have jeff garcia as the #5 headline ... YUCK!

October 9, 2008  08:37 AM ET

Who's GarDia? See post! Nice proofing FN.

You are making it sound like FN chooses to be gay. That is so wrong. I thought that discussion had been settled. It is pre determined....Get with it.

Great for him, he should have been the starter all along.

He was so messed up in last years playoff game he probably shouldn't have even been playing if I recall correctly, but he went out there anyway because he's a gamer

The way the Panthers defense is playing, whoever plays quarterback could be sore come Monday morning.

October 9, 2008  11:14 AM ET

The US Federal???OMG. is that really you..hey, could use a few bucks over here....i will say whatever you want me to about Garcia...It's not his fault...some of my best friends are ....you name it....promise i will pay you back..

October 9, 2008  11:32 AM ET

He is a good QB. Just an older QB. Plenty of teams wanted him, but he wanted a chance to start. Most NFL teams are not going to promise a 37 year old journeyman a starting job. The Bucs QB position was so bleek that he knew he would start. And he did take the team to the playoffs. The bucs lost to the Superbowl Champs remember. That defense crushed everyone and slowed down the most prolific offense i have seen since the greatest Show on Turf.

October 9, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Garcia was benched in Detroit and Cleveland...that's DETROIT and CLEVELAND!!!!

He's not a team player, never has been, never will be.

October 9, 2008  12:47 PM ET

Bring on Plummer

The flirtation with Brett Favre? Hey, whatever Jeff wants to do in the offseason is his business, right? wasn't it TO who started the gay rumors about Garcia back in the SF days?

October 9, 2008  01:22 PM ET

Garcia flirted with Brett Favre?

You are correct. Just one of several teammates and former teammates TO has managed to throw under the bus. Garcia does have a really hot wife though!!

Maybe using that hot wife as a cover. If it walks like a goose, quacks like a goose, and smells like a goose...by golly it must be a goose. Let the guy do his thing.
