Where are Allen's sacks?

Jared Allen led the NFL with 15 1/2 sacks last season for the Kansas City Chiefs. After five games with the Vikings, and a new contract worth $74 million, he has two sacks. What's the deal? Where are the sacks? I asked Allen on Wednesday if he's tired of questions about his lack of sacks. Loquacious as always, he said, "I don't care; it's your guys' job, asking all the dumb questions you want." Allen laughed. He understands. "We've got a good part of our season coming up; a lot of these teams we're about ready to play I had good success against last year," he said. "Nothing I can do about (sacks). I've watched film; I'm there with my rushes. I've got a ton of pressures (on quarterbacks). I've just got to get them on the ground." But just two sacks for NFL's highest-paid defensive player? "Better than having zero, right?" Allen said. "But it will come. I'm a perfectionist. I watch more film of myself. I constantly, constantly am on myself about what I can do to get better and how I can get there faster, what I need to do technique-wise. I watch schemes."

At least they said "sacks" and not "sack". That would have been funny as hell.

I am looking at that photo and thinking this is even funnier than I thought...Is he saying " Where is my sack?"...I just might youtube this...

October 9, 2008  08:31 AM ET

He's screaming: "I Haz UR Money!" in the image.

October 9, 2008  08:35 AM ET

All kidding aside, he doesn't blame anyone, says he will work harder and keep trying. This guy won't make it in the NFL>

In the picture he's showing Tavaris Jackson how much he overthrew someone again ...

Looks like KC got the deal now.

Anybody who knows anything about football, knows that when a player like Allen has a breakout year, teams will design their offensive schemes around him to try to eliminate him. They will double him or do whatever they have to do to keep him away from the QB. Ask how many sacks his teamates have. I'm sure their numbers have gone up as a result of other teams doubling Allen.

LOL! Or underthrew.

he'll be alright. it's not like nate clements have 10 INT's right now.

October 9, 2008  10:11 AM ET

he's slumping cuz there's not a strong enough country music scene in Minnesota...

October 9, 2008  10:51 AM ET

Sacks are not the only metric that should be used to determine the effectiveness of defensive lineman. He's consistently drawing double teams, which makes it nearly impossible to get pressure on the quarterback yet creates opportunities for teammates.

The reason he's laughing? The media doesn't-- and will never-- understand this.

This guy is a "KVB" want to be!!

October 9, 2008  11:16 AM ET

The Vikings should have never given him so much $$$ to begin with. never give a guy a boatload of $$$ cuz he had 1 year with a lot of sacks. Burgess led the league in sacks for us (the raiders) not too long ago and what has he done since? He has been a quality player but not the greatest player in the league or anything. When it comes to the D-Line I would like to see a guy have 2 great years under his belt before I throw a bunch of $$$ at him. 1 good year deserves a bonus, 2 good years deserve a contract. Brad Childress ruined the Vikes when he benched Jackson. he put all his eggs in that basket, he is a qb coach kinda guy, and he gave the kid 2 games and pulled him. Way to go dumbass!!!! No wonder you guys will finish with a losing record this year.

John Lynch...the media does understand that the great ones beat the double team . that is why they are great. Strahan was double teamed ( just one example) most of his career..nothing against the guy. being the highest paid and being the best at his position are two different things....he is one, but not the other.

You just answered your own question. He signed his contract, poured himself a glass of champagne and took 1000 milligrams of fukitol.
