Cubs won't investigate Dodgers dugout damage

The mystery over who broke a water pipe in the Cubs' dugout after their Game 3 loss in Los Angeles didn't have quite the same buzz as the one over who smashed Sammy Sosa's boom box after the final game of 2004. General manager Jim Hendry said he didn't know who did it and didn't care. "I have no idea, and I don't have any interest in finding out," he said. "To me, it's not even an issue. Believe me, if I had been in a uniform, it might have been me." The broken water pipe caused the dugout to flood after the game, preventing manager Lou Piniella from attending a postgame news conference in a room off the left-field corner of Dodger Stadium. It's not uncommon for Cubs players to smash things, from Carlos Zambrano punching a hole in the wall by his locker in June to someone smashing a framed photograph on the clubhouse wall after a loss to Houston in early September. Hendry said he had spoken to the Dodgers and told an official to notify him if there was any damage so the Cubs could pay for it.

Never did I imagine about three weeks ago, that this would be the type of story the Cubs would be reduced to in early October. Still unfathomable...

I hear ya, Cubbies pretty much were on their way in everyone's minds, including the TRUTH. I guess "It's Gonna Happen" means plumbing problems.

This 2008 Cubs Meltdown is sponsored by HomeDepot.....

I'm sure it wasn't Soriano.....if he had tried to take a swing at a waterpipe....I'm sure he would have whiffed.

My money is on that hothead Zambrano.

Yes, and we would also be reading about him needing MORE off season surgery as he would undoubtedly hurt himself in the process. I honestly don't think Soriano cares that much?

disrepectful losers......karma cubs, karma. you'd think after 100 years of losing they would know how to do it respectfully

October 9, 2008  02:18 PM ET

Karma? What the **** are you talking about? We played like damn Little Leaguers in that series, and the very wrong team went on. Karma will be the Dodgers getting the **** kicked out of them, which is precisely what they deserve.

It's that goat curse... the best regular season record in the NL and now they are playing golf... Sad though, I really thought they would pull it off..

You got issues, or you are just ignorant. You said yourself the cubs played by little leagers, then say the wrong team went on? I guess that makes the dodgers a great T ball team that upset the mighty 12 year olds from Wrigley. Funny If I break a water line, I get arrested and charged with vandalism. A sore loser does it and the cubs fan's pay for it. Where do you think that money is coming from, tickets, and $10 hot dogs.
