Orlovsky or Stanton may start for Lions

The Lions could have a new starting quarterback for the first time since 2005. Jon Kitna didn't practice Wednesday and went for an MRI exam because of back spasms, and it is unclear whether he will Sunday at Minnesota. Backup Dan Orlovsky took equal practice reps with No. 3 QB Drew Stanton. Orlovsky said he felt ready even though he has minor knee and ankle injuries. Stanton said he felt comfortable even though he just returned from a sprained thumb and never practiced so much with the first team before. Coach Rod Marinelli made sure practice-squad quarterback Drew Henson -- whom he calls Drew II -- got some work, too.

OMG! The Lions are actually doing something to try to makeselves better??

I need a pillow for my aching head.

I think having such an offensive made the Lions do this. Don't look for Stanton or Orlovsky to be much better until Lions get their line fixed. I don't think Lions fans understand how tough Kitna is to absorb this lack of a line game after game. It finally is catching up with him.

What a joke, I feel sorry for you Detroit fans.

This is two things they have done...........the first was firing Millen.

This isnt a choice Kitna is injured. Rod IMO is too close to some of the players to make a move. Drew needs to start soon. With our bad oline we need a QB who can move outside the pocket and throw on the run. DanO and Kitna cant do that.

The only reason this is being done is to try to keep fan interest. This is the only reason. If only the Lions had one halfway capable assistant coach Marinelli would be gone by now rather than right after the final game. I am sure he can find a job he is suited for. There are many high schools who need a defensive genius for their junior varsity teams. Or perhaps girls lacrosse. Firing Millen was step one. It is time to take out the rest of the garbage.

They play football in Detroit?

October 9, 2008  11:10 AM ET

Whats that smell? Oh I see it's comeing from the worlds biggest garbage dump called NJ.

October 9, 2008  11:37 AM ET

Does it matter who plays. This team is going no where fast. And playing injured behind a porous offensive line will result in Drew II playing.

October 9, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Kitna shouldnt ever start again, his time is done, he blows.

This just in....Lions make move toward change....film at eleven.

October 9, 2008  12:35 PM ET

Why even put Lion threads on here...are there even any Lions fans?

October 9, 2008  12:43 PM ET

yes, they go to the local zoo.

October 9, 2008  12:51 PM ET

The lions should start Stanton for the rest of the season just to see what he has. They passed on drafting a QB in the draft this year "because we don't know what we have in Stanton" you will never know if he don't play

October 9, 2008  01:36 PM ET

Absolutely, they must give the ball to Stanton. The Lions have nothing to lose and must see what they have in their 2nd round pick.

does anyone really think that he can do any worse than kitna did? why not????
