Point guard commits to Cal
De La Salle point guard Brandon Smith committed to Cal on Tuesday. Smith, a 6-foot senior who was a third team All-Metro selection as a junior, will join the program as a walk-on next season and then accept a guaranteed scholarship for the remaining three or four seasons, depending on whether he redshirts his freshman season. Cal currently has only one scholarship available for the class of 2009, but a number of scholarships are expected to be available the following season. Smith chose Cal over more than a dozen other schools that offered him scholarships including Colorado and St. Mary's.
