Andruw Jones said he wanted to be at Citizens Bank Park for the opening game of the National League Championship Series instead of in front of the television set in his home in suburban Atlanta. But Jones said he has no plans of rejoining the Dodgers during their playoff run to cheer on his teammates. "I don't want to jinx them," Jones said when reached at his home in suburban Atlanta on Thursday.

You would think that a guy who contributed zero to the team, and is likely to do so again next year, while walking away with millions of dollars would at least be around to cheer on his team-mates. You would think.

I don't know about Jones too much, I don't know about his work ethic but it's mysterious to me that he has dropped off this drastically in performance. Is he lazy? Did pitchers find a weakness that he just can't overcome. It's almost like when Chuck Knoblauch forgot how to throw to 1st base.

He's scared of the phils

Translation: "I'm afraid of being in the same place as Cole Hamels"

"I don't wanna jinx them". He continued "but I'll happily take my cut of the World Series money!"

This is it for playoff news??? Come on T&R. There was a game last night. There is a game tonight. Big Papi is bad mouthing the Yanks in the papers this AM. ANd this is the tripe you serve us this morning. Nothing on the Phils? This pitiful story on the Doggers? Nothing on Tmpa Bay at all? talk about disrespect! Okay, **** the Red Sox, that I can understand but the Big Papi story would be worth some commentary, no? And God forbid, as much as people here complain, not even the usual Manny story?

Honestly, anyone surprised by this attitude? Jones is done.

October 10, 2008  08:49 AM ET

I would also suggest that he look at getting some "hair" tatooed on his noggin, shingles are wearin' a little thin up there chubby!

October 10, 2008  08:49 AM ET

I dont want to jinx them translates to: I dont want there to be a cutover shot of me on TV shown so McCarver and Buck can call me one of the worst free agent pickups of all time. Fox probably asked him to stay home so they wouldnt need the extra wide lens.

baseball players are very supersticious; so i dont know what the problem is here.

so what if he is making millions to do nothing, that's everyone's fault - not his. dont act like you wouldn't take it.

Gotta s*ck to be off the 'roids now doesn't it AJ? Well, at least you conned the Dodgers into giving you $36 million before you retired.

Do you even think about what you write?

"so what if he is making millions to do nothing, that's everyone's fault - not his..."

When I start to get a cut of his salary and have a say in decisons I will gladly accept blame for losers like him. Until then, you sir are a moron!

Ned Colletti should be fired for the Andruw Jones deal alone, not to mention Jason Schmidt.

Jones is the perfect example of a decent player who had a reputation of a great player. L.A. should have made the 'roid crackdown / collapse of Jones' #s connection, and didn't. Hard to believe he's washed up at 31, but it sure looks that way.

His defense used to make people overlook his lack of plate dicipline, but his range is way down and his rocket arm has fizzled.

Even if they never get a positive drug test on Jones it is so blatantly obvious that he benefited from the steroid era and once testing started he just so happened to decline. Now maybe Pudge (can we call him that anymore since he looks 50 lbs smaller?) Rodriguez can make the claim that his decline comes from old age and all those years behind the plate but Jones is 31 and that isn't exactly the age where your skills drop off.

I live near Atlanta and it's been obvious for some years now that Andruw was getting thicker and thicker each year. It was obvious he didn't really take care of himself, and just as obvious was his disinclination to listen to the Terry Pendleton -- hitting coach -- and stop trying to pull everything. If I'd been a pitcher all I'd have ever thrown him was curveballs off the plate away from him. He'd strike out nearly every time.

The Braves aren't what they were, but one of their last smart moves was to let Andruw go. I don't think he's a bad guy, at least I never heard he was, but he must either be unable to change for some physical reason, which seems unlikely, or as thick in the head as he is in the waist.

But man, he was some centerfielder.

October 10, 2008  10:03 AM ET

I heard he couldn't get any free tickets, and he sure wasn't going to pay what they are asking on StubHub!

October 10, 2008  10:17 AM ET

Good for Jones. He knows not to be around to see the Dodgers pull a Casey Jones against the Phillies. So who gets to console Alyssa Milano when her beloved team tanks?

As a Curacao citizen where he's origanaly from I am happy to see him struggle like that. Every Baller who become millionaire arrange foundations at his native country to support the community. Andruw hasn't done any thing for the island. Luckly we got Jurrjens in Braves which is the next star of the island. I'll probably see Jones back her in our AA baseball team
