12:47 PM ET 10.10 | According to a knowledgeable source, the Jays are prepared to offer Burnett a two-year, $30 million (U.S.) extension. That would reshape his existing deal into a four-year, $54 million contract. That doesn't appear to be enough to satisfy one of the most coveted pitchers in baseball. Braunecker was not prepared to say exactly what he expects for his client, but said money would not be the main consideration.

Here is a case of a guy having a great year and he will probably get too much money. If Burnett is worth $20M, what is Josh Beckett worth? There has to be a ceiling. Roy Halliday is going to be a free agent soon. If Burnett gets $20M, Halliday is easily worth $40M then.

Any team that offers him more than the Jays is braindead. The Jays are certifiable if they really offer Burnett 4 years. Only twice in his career has he started 30 games or more in a season and he is a 4 plus era pitcher in the AL East, which is probably the equivalent of a 3 plus in the NL but I digress.

Yikes...the cost of starting pitchers...they only play 20% of the season and will contribute to no more than 20% of the wins (a MAXIMUM of 33 wins IF they win EVERY START AND IF they work on normal 4-days rest AND don't miss a start), so in essence they are the highest-paid baseball players in the game. So a pitcher who makes $20 milllion a year is making over $600,000 per game, while the Mannys and the A-Rods make LESS than $170,000 PER GAME (based on playing 150 games), but they have the potential to make an impact on just about EVERY SINGLE game since they're starting position players. If these position players got paid the same on a per-game basis, they would be making $90 million a year ($600,000 X 150).
Yes, pitching is a huge necessity, but it's the team that has more runs at the end of game that wins AND it's the offense that scores, not the pitchers (see what Jake Peavy's 2.85 ERA got him - a LOSING record).

HAHA! I hope the Yankees sign him to a deal similar to that! You guys would run him out of town faster than you turn on A-Rod!

I agree for the most part-
this guy has possibly the best stuff of anyone in baseball-
but his injury history & reports of his heart are BIG red flags
a 2 year deal would be ideal from a management position....
but Burnett would be the certifiable one if he takes 'only'
a 2 year deal- when it is a lock he will be offered big $ & years
