Dolphins, Lions shopping players

With the NFL, the trade deadline is more dead than anything else. Though speculation has centered around such high-profile players such as Detroit wide receiver Roy Williams and Kansas City tight end Tony Gonzalez have surfaced, no star is expected to be traded. If any trades go down -- and they rarely do -- they are expected to be of the "B" list players, not the headliners. Players that have been shopped in recent days include Dolphins quarterback John Beck and Lions wide receiver Shaun McDonald. Of course, the interest in each player has been, at best, minimal. Since the summer the Dolphins have attempted to trade Beck to no avail. At one point in the spring, the Dallas Cowboys expressed a modicum of interest and even offered a player that Bill Parcells once drafted. But the Dolphins rejected that offer."

Only thing is the Jets lost to the Pats, so they are behind them.

Dont bring me down this morning, (am on cloud 9 with Pats and Boys loses). Just saying at this point would appear the Jets picked up Favre and brought themselves into contention. Too many people derided the old guy and gave the Jets no chance.

shrug. gratz to the jets. with their schedule strength they have little excuse for not ending the season 12-4. problem will come in the playoffs when the jets won't be playing the scrubs of the nfl. then the career nfl turnover king will send his current team packing back to the off-season..

That is because the article has no relevance. Would rather talk football.
Jets do look good at times, not counting that pounding the Chargers put on them. And the AFC is wide open. It would appear the NFC is too. At this point in the season it appears the King is dead ( Patriots ) and the Emperor has no clothes ( Cowboys ). Any team coached by Norv Turner just has no RING to it and the rules say someone has to win. Ya gotta love the fall.

The NFL trade deadline is a big non-event. A lot of names get thrown about and nothing happens so consider us 0 for 9 on topic relevance with this post.

0 for 10?

October 13, 2008  10:38 AM ET

There are some teams that one or two players may make a difference if they were to get them. Most teams need more than just one player, so making a trade at this point may few futile. I thought at first that Dallas may be one of those teams that maybe a Roy Williams would make a difference but now I can see that Dallas has more problems than that. Tennessee or Jacksonville could really use a class one wideout..

I bet Raider fans wish they could trade Awful Al Davis. Now I see why their fans wear disguises.

Oh, I agree. I just found it amusing how irrelevant the story is, even though I am a Lions fan.

Looks like tommy boy broke the streak, 1 for 13.

Tommy Boy is like that one Lions win right near the end of the season that puts them in a three-way tie for last, and costs them the top draft pick.

October 13, 2008  11:27 AM ET

Too bad the Lions aren't looking for a backup QB.. I would take Williams for Beck any day..

October 13, 2008  11:29 AM ET

****! Daddy Tuna, did want to trade the 'Beckster' for his son, B. Carpenter? Said it so, Tuna! And just think we could have drafted, Cromartie or Kiwanuka with that pick! Thanks, Tuna!

ROMO OUT FOUR WEEKS

Let's trade Beck for Roy Williams

I'm confused. The Jets trade for the QB who holds all the career records for passing. The Patriots lose their QB minutes into the season. And Jets fans (are there really enough of them to use the plural form?) are excited that their team has the same record as the Patriots? Who Jets fan(s) will grasp at anything I guess............

getting cranky huh Pats fans?
we're all real upset for you
you all said we were dumb when we called your Defense slow and old
hows it look now?

October 13, 2008  12:31 PM ET

HA! I love the double-speak Pats fans always take, straight from their idol Bill "doushebag" Belichek. When the Patriots win, its a team game, Tom Brady is replacable and Matt Cassell is the next coming of Steve Young. When they lose, it doesn't matter, because Tom Brady isn't in. Take a stance, either its a lost season, or you're going to be overconfidant **** like every year. Go buy a tape of Superbowl XLII
