Patriots owner Robert Kraft has spoken with Tom Brady since the franchise quarterback underwent surgery on his left knee last Monday. Kraft said yesterday, before the Patriots fell to the Chargers, 30-10, that the surgery went well and that Brady will return to Boston soon for rehabilitation. Brady, who suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee during the Patriots' season opener against the Chiefs Sept. 7, was operated on at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. Kraft said Brady was in good spirits following the surgery. "One day closer to playing next year. That's every day I talk to him," said Kraft, speaking at Seau's, the eponymous restaurant of former Patriots linebacker Junior Seau, whom Kraft presented with his 2007 AFC championship ring yesterday.

Wow, the pats are really a one person team. Without brady, average at best

And the Jets with Favre.....very much in contention in the division.

Brady better heal fast or else NE is going down the drain. This injury actually solidifies Brady's greatness. W/out Brady the Patriots sucks. Or maybe Brady got lucky on this one because even if Brady was playing the patriots maybe are going down.

I hope he comes back 100% . But, that will also be one year older for a lot of his mates, and they look like they are getting older fast. Think you will see a lot of changes to the Pats roster next year. Their best players are on the decline. I suspect it takes a year of playing to get it all back after surgery like that.

The Dolphins beat the Patsies. The Texans beat the Dolphins. So, the Patsies are worse than the Texans. lol I guess Bellicheat is no coaching wizard after all. He just gets by on Brady's talent and by cheating. Don't hurry back Brady. Take 10 years or so off to raise your kid...oh yeah, right. Nevermind.

October 13, 2008  10:02 AM ET

He needs to come back 100 percent but it's obvious that the Pats are a one man team.

October 13, 2008  10:21 AM ET

The Pats are more than a one man team...QBs mean alot and Brady is a good one...

October 13, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Finally some good news in Patriots Nation....

Ah, the division is between the Bills and Pats. The Jets aren't beating anyone noteworthy with that defense anytime soon.

Take Peyton Manning away from the Colts and see how great they become

Good for Tom Brady.. I wish him well and hope he has a speedy recovery..

The secondary of my Pats, is awful....we'll be lucky to end up with 9 wins. Deltha O'Neil and Hobbs are competing for most overly depended on CB. Not that I wish we kept Asante -- too much money -- but having Hobbs as our #1 CB and Deltha as the #2, is just sad.

Hi Pimpy. Did you see Cassel sitting on the bench with that thousand yard stare that was so prevalent on the faces of soldiers in Vietnam? Hope he gets over it quickly.

Hi Lady! Cassel takes too long to read through his progressions and is getting him and the OL killed. I think he's done all that can be expected of a guy in his position, but the reality seems more and more that this team's aging linebackers, undersized secondary and injured OL and RBs is going to be lucky to make the playoffs. If I were a betting man, I'd place my money elsewhere.

A lot of FN posters were saying that about our linebackers but some of us (me included) naysayed them. Well, the chickens are coming home to roost. Think switching to Gutierrez would help any?

Matt Cassel does not equal T. Brady, ask Randy, he knows!

the Jets are a better football team then the Pats w/o brady
the Pats D is old and slow

"One day closer to playing next year. That's every day I talk to him," said Kraft ...

Next year looks really far away at this point for Pats fans!

October 13, 2008  12:49 PM ET

Can someone tell the Jets they are not the Titans. Throwbacks for one week is great, but 2 home games in a row is kinda embarrassing. I don't blame them for wanting to be Jets, but they are, so they should wear the Jets colors.

We already have an NFL Titans team and NY Jets are no Tennessee Titans.

The Jets are not a better than the Pats. The Pats manhandled them in Giants stadium a few weeks ago and will do the same in Foxboro.

Jets are lame.

Matt Cassel hadn't played in a meaningful role for 9 years until Brady got injured. He's obviously having difficulty reacting to NFL speed. There's no way for him to pick up the nuances of the game immediately upon being thrown into game conditions.

I may not have sounded like a Pats fan but I've been one of their fans for decades. Cassel better get up to snuff soon or he'll see himself replaced and not because of an injury.

October 13, 2008  01:00 PM ET

Tom Brady can't rush back if his knee isn't ready. Culpepper never recovered, McNabb took over a year to fully recover, and Palmer was gun shy (by his own admission) for a while when he came back. He'll feel a lot of pressure to come back before he's ready, but Brady needs to be smart about his recovery and comeback.
