Bengals may bench Perry

Is Bengals starting tailback Chris Perry about to get benched in favor of Cedric Benson or Kenny Watson? Sure sounds like it. Perry rushed 11 times for 14 yards (1.3) with a long gain of four yards. "We're going to look at all that," head coach Marvin Lewis said in the aftermath of the Bengals' 26-14 loss to the New York Jets. "We need to look at it and take a hard look, and see what's the best thing for us to go forward. It's a combination of things. I'm not going to sit here and elaborate much on it now. We've got to do better. It's not good enough."

You may want to bench the five guys up front that were blocking on those plays too coach.

You call that blocking 50yearfan?

LOL

October 13, 2008  11:01 AM ET

Also 50yearfan, the blockers were not the ones dropping the ball on the turf...Maybe if Perry had not spent so much time looking for the ball he had just dropped, he may have gotten more yardage. ?

i think the whole team should be cut an they should just buy the local high school team. that will do better than they doing rite now.

October 13, 2008  11:46 AM ET

i didn't know that he was even playing..

October 13, 2008  11:49 AM ET

hes been playing all year...

Looks like they called their own bluff here. Cincy cut Rudi because he wasn't cutting it and Perry was doing so well in camp. Well, camp is camp. Perry is excellent as a complement back to catch the ball or for change of pace, but he isn't a feature back. He really ain't a feature back when Brat hasn't changed his playbook from "bowling ball RB" to "quick, agile RB", but that shouldn't really shock any Bengals fan whose be following along.

And, I agree, an OL that remembers how to block would be super. Numerous times Sunday I saw 5 guys trying to block 4 or less guys and fail. I don't think Jim Brown would be more than 2 yards a carry behind that line.

Chris Perry about to get benched in favor of Cedric Benson .....

I would put a sack of potatoes in before I play Cedric Benson! At least the potatoes have eyes!

HAHAHA! Good one! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

You knew Perry had no talent when all they'd talk about when they drafted him was that he was a "character guy"... which they certainly needed, but he was and is a fumble prone, slow, small back who only averaged 4 per carry at Michigan... good reciever, but they already had enough recievers. Yet another of the terrible judgements by the Bengals management and coaching staff.

Totally agree...Cedric Benson will do no more than Chris Perry if he has no blocking. I do think they need to bench Perry though... He fumbles too much..

I can make a fire pit bench for Mr. Perry that may suit him when he retires. It's built for two, stained firebrick red, and has a little shelf below for stowing firewood. It's great for when you need to sit and roast marshmellows and such by the fire. How romantic!!

I miss Whipp!!!

And let me say this, Great CarsonPalmer09, your picks are always in the realm of reasonableness. Let us shrug this realm of reason and go with elbow knocking and spitting... Agreed???

Nay, shall great warriors lurk in the darkness of troubled seas. I say not!!!! Bust out of your hallowed grounds and shallow waters to become revived once again in the combat of the great pick'ems of NFL!!!! Must I eat chowder, shrimp, oysters, and sardines!!!

October 13, 2008  04:20 PM ET

Nay, I say!!!

October 13, 2008  04:24 PM ET

I say you bench the owner, the coach.....and then worry about the rest of the team.

October 13, 2008  04:40 PM ET

Maybe the Bengals can trade back for Rudi Johnson...
It's amazing how this team went from a possible, perennial Super Bowl contender, back to the Bungles in 3 years....
