Viking recruits Gonzalez via text

Former Chief Jared Allen sent a text message Saturday night to his old friend Tony G after hearing that Tony G is looking to be traded. Allen told the St. Paul Pioneer Press "I Jared Allensaid, 'You want to get traded, man?' I was joking with him. Then I said, 'Why don't you come join me in Minnesota?' " The Vikings obviously could use Tony G's talent. And Tony G certainly would appreciate going to a team that likely will remain in the playoff hunt. So, did Tony G respond to Allen's text yet? "He didn't get back yet," Allen said with a laugh.

Sounds like tampering. But of course it's just Allen talking to Gonzo. He should get Rizzo and Fozzie while he's at it.

Gonzo could help a lot of teams at the moment. Timing, Location, and Money.....and a Draft pick in the lottery known as "CAOS"

Somehow the thought Frerotte or T ( just a heart beat away ) Jackson throwing the ball to you probably does not thrill any receiver.

Sounds like tampering to me, too.

come on over to the purple side

It's just two former teammates having a one-sided conversation. So far anyway.

Tony Gonzalez in Minnesota...I like it. Their TE's drop too many passes and don't block well. If you are a tight end who cant catch or block, then just what the hell are you?

It's a conversation between friends who happened to be former teammates. Now if that message comes from Brad Childress then that would be different.

October 14, 2008  09:48 AM ET

stupid...why would he want to go there?....they have no chance of going to the SB

October 14, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Dear Jared Allen,

Tony wants to go to a contender...hence, he won't come to Minnesota.

I would hope Brad Childress isn't that stupid.....I think he learned his lesson with Brett Favre over the summer.

So says the sconie. Those cheeseheads aren't contenders either with that frickle qb...what's his name again...?

October 14, 2008  11:01 AM ET

if they can get some guys that can catch the ball they might be able to get to the SB.. the G-men where 0-4 and went to the SB... and look at thier "great" QB last night, back to be the same old ELI

October 14, 2008  11:08 AM ET

Why anyone would choose to play for Childress is beyond me. This whole tampering thing is a joke. These guys are friends and i would almost guarantee that this happens all the time among a lot of the players in the league.

October 14, 2008  11:30 AM ET

Since Jared Allen is in no position to make the trade happen, and Tony G didn't even call him back, I think we can safely rule out tampering and just call this what it was: A friend teasing his buddy with a text message. Happens about a billion times a day.

October 14, 2008  11:38 AM ET

HA,HA AND DO WHAT JARED, STEAL THE MONEY LIKE YOU ARE DOING !!

October 14, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Yes, lose MORE draft picks by trading for a 32 yr old TE when your QB's are still named Frerotte, Jackson, and Booty. Makes perfect sense....

Well Green Bay did beat the Vikings and that Aaron Rodgers is in the top 8 in the league in every significant passing stat, sounds like that "frickle qb" might be getting a tan this Feb.

October 14, 2008  03:07 PM ET

Not tampering either, tampering is when a team official contacts the player or the player's agent directly with out first contacting the team the afore mentioned player's team.

The whole point of his leaving KC is to join a SB contender...why would he want to go to the Vikings?
