Why Bruins-Flyers trade went down

Defenseman Andrew Alberts has been traded to Philadelphia for Ned Lukacevic and a conditional 2009 fourth-round pick. If Alberts re-signs with Philly, the fourth-rounder becomes a third-round pick. The fact that Alberts was still making those mistakes in the first place was one reason why the Bruins shipped out the 27-year-old ex-Boston College star. Philadelphia is without top-six D-men Randy Jones (hip) and Ryan Parent (shoulder) for extended stretches, which is why the Flyers pushed for the deal. In Alberts, they get a player who should be a serviceable fifth or sixth defenseman. The Flyers play Montreal tonight at the Wachovia Center, and Alberts could be in the Philadelphia lineup. From Boston's perspective, the Bruins whack a $1.25 million cap hit that was a healthy scratch the first two games of 2008-09. They also get back a draft pick they had given up in the Manny Fernandez deal. Claud Julien didn't know much about Lukacevic, but it's doubtful the winger will see action with the big club anytime soon.

Timing, Location, Money, and lack of consistant talent. "These are some of my favorite things" as the song goes.

The dude cant play D. Plus he took up a lot of space on the cap. He's a good hitter yeah, but he'll make some ill advised hits at the expense of position. I definetely like this move.

Why Bruins-Flyers trade went down

Because they both had disposable assets that the other wanted? No?

trade went down because kukkonen sucks

Biron should take most of the blame for the Flyers putrid start. Soft goals are why he has a 6.32 GAA. Nitty played better in relief Saturday night. I hope to see him in net tonite against the Pens. These lost points are the ones that bite you in the **** at the end of the year.

this deal went down because Paul wants a quick fix and doesnt want to trade Knuble and have to bring up Giroux or Nodl this soon. he's hoping Kukkonen can step up so he can send Sbisa to juniors. In my opinion this trade is just a space filler and won't help the Flyers lack of depth at defense. Philly has several 3rd pairing defenders already. This is just an attempt not to add much salary and have a rotation so the lower level defensemen can stay fresh and possibly play better. Theyre just trying to stay afloat until Parent and Jones come back.

Flyers off to a shaky start. Lots of new faces and the chemistry with have to get better over time. Playing with the same players makes a huge difference and the new faces need time to bond. They will get better, but only time will tell.
