Willie returning to Yankees?

The Yankees need a third-base coach, and Willie Randolph needs a job. So there is a chance the former Mets manager might return to The Bronx. In a move that shows the honeymoon between Joe Girardi and the Yankees is officially over, Bobby Meacham, a close friend of Girardi's, is out as third-base coach, a move that was announced yesterday. Meacham, who with bullpen coach Mike Harkey lived with Girardi in his Westchester County home during the season, was dismissed, as was special pitching instructor Rich Monteleone. Meacham was informed by GM Brian Cashman. Immediately, Randolph and Larry Bowa jumped to the top of the list as possible replacements. And there is a chance bench coach Rob Thomson could be moved to third with the Yanks hiring a veteran bench coach to assist Girardi.

Actually Randolf will take any post in Girardi's current staff. Meacham is fired from 3rd, as well as the pitching coaches. It seems that whole staff that Girardi picked will be replaced. Now he will just be a puppet controlled by Stinkbrenner. Poor Girardi, didnt know what he got himself into.

Please don't put Willie at 3rd. He sends everybody.

Hank Steinbrenner April 2008

First off, this is the NY Post, so taking this article with a grain of salt is an understatement.

Second, why would Larry Bowa leave his friend, Joe Torre, to go back to the Bronx?

Third, Willie shouldn't go back to NY for a while. The Yankees won't be truly competitive for a couple of years and Hank Steinbrenner is certifiable. So, why not hold out for a job somewhere else where the pressure is significantly less?

Larry Bowa would come back to kick Cano's Butt in gear,

and it would be great to have him back, but would really like to see Willie be part of the Yankees again.

Welcome home Willie.

larry and willie would both be welcome back with open arms. we could use both of them. one as the 3rd base coach and the other as the bench coach.

October 15, 2008  11:22 AM ET

whatever......
willie is not a strong personality- therefore, what's the point
of him coming back? Bowa or someone of that ilk would be nice
to get our un-emotional 'professionals' in gear

Didn't know the Yankees were looking for a new bat boy....hmmmm

October 15, 2008  11:45 AM ET

Not a bad idea to hire Willie as the 3b coach. He does have a rapport with some of the players already and knows how things run with the Yankees system. Also would garner the Yanks some good will among Nyer's which they haven't had much of lately with the evictions of Torre and Bernie the last few years.

Would be nice to see Willie back in Yankee Pinstripes. As far as Bowa goes, my guess is that he stays w/Torre.

I also hear they have an opening for Special Assistant to the Traveling Scretary's Mandatory Affirmative Action Hire......

I don't see Bowa jumping ship on Torre's playoff team for a Yanks team that apparently can't get their **** together with Torre gone. No offense to Girardi. But Torre had them competitive every year. Even with major injuries. Maybe, just maybe in stead of firing assistants, George needs to fire his nimrod son. It's gonna get ugly in Yankee Stadium the next few years. Theyve got a long way to fall and every other al east team (Baltimore excluded, cause well, they are Baltimore after all), have caught up the the over priced old folks home in the Bronx. Down with the Yankees! (And the Sox too)

October 15, 2008  04:07 PM ET

yankees will win the A.L EAST next year, with a few new pitchers and wang coming back they'll be just fine... just remember they didn't make the playoffs because they had a year full of injuries.. watch out for the 09 yankees.. Beware!!

October 15, 2008  05:20 PM ET

ha i hope so. if its true he'll get booed so lout at citifield during interleague play that itll make aaron heilmans boos sound like whispers

Thats right lets blame all the coaches and managers not the overpriced overpaid primmadonnas like Arod!
