How badly is Eli Manning hurt?

First came the insult, now comes the injury: Eli Manning is hurt. Although he insists it's "nothing major" and that he won't miss any time, Manning did suffer an apparent injury to the upper left side of his body during the Giants' embarrassing 35-14 loss in Cleveland Monday night. He suffered it on a hit with about 10 minutes left in the second quarter. And although Manning never came out, Tom Coughlin said Tuesday that his quarterback "was in some pain." Manning obviously expects to play this week against the Niners, although Coughlin was vague about whether he'd even be able to practice today. The coach certainly wasn't ready to speculate about whether he would have to get ready to face San Francisco on Sunday with backup David Carr.

it's nothing major, then whay is this a story?

October 15, 2008  06:13 AM ET

oops..... why

October 15, 2008  06:24 AM ET

I got the 411 from Morris, the long-time Giants insider, and he says this warrior is gonna play through the pain. He's not just Peyton's younger brother, he's a boy and wants to play ball.

He is lucky it was to his left shoulder area. There are cars that do not weigh as much as Rogers. He is tough, he will work through it.

The left side of the body is where the pride gland is. Mine would heard too if I was getting thrashed by a bottom feeding team in the NFL on a prime time monday night game...

Undefeated with visions of sugar plums dancing through their heads, and then they lose to Cleveland --- CLEVELAND!!! On prime time! Way to go!!!!

Give the Browns credit. They played well. It is not like the Giants lost to Rutgers. The other team has talented players at the pro level. The Giants played hard, they just did not play well..It starts all over next week end anyways. Luckily.

oh, is this the "excuse" for being the real Eli ?

October 15, 2008  09:08 AM ET

rogers did pile drive Eli into the ground...he should have been penalized for the hit...

I was surprised they did not call it. But they did not. Many times they do...never know what roughing the QB is from game to game. Sometimes it is a low shot, almost always to the helmet and sometimes the driving into the ground rule...kind of like holding on the OL. Just never know what and when. Coughlin never said anything about it in his press conference, so it must be they did not think so.

I still can't believe the Giants lost to the Browns. I could understand it if they lost to one of the dominate NFL teams, like the Rams or something. But the Browns???

October 15, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Whe was whincing whenever they got close to him in the second half, that now makes sence.

October 15, 2008  10:33 AM ET

After being whooped by the Cleveland Brown, I guess it's his ego that's hurt more than anything else!

October 15, 2008  10:54 AM ET

He's not hurt...next please.

Payback is a beotch!!! In pre-season they banged up the Browns and the Browns got several players injured that last into the first month of the season. Finally, they are getting these players back and just in time to embarrass the Giants on MNF!! Let's face it, the Giants got on a good run last year, but were still crying about the respect they THINK they deserve!! Then after a few wins they get hyped about how great they are (NOT!!). Now they'll be back to crying about the respect they don't get! Eli IS NOT Peyton and IS NOT a great QB!! He is just an average NFL QB at best. Sorry! If he is hurt, no big loss!! Two things that are true, Browns are a better team than giving credit for (how many other teams would win their first three games with 7 starters out??), and the Giants are a good team, NOT a great one!

October 15, 2008  04:21 PM ET

So are Giant fans using this as a excuse to them loosing? Eli didnt feel good, he had a fever, he was to "average" this game...?
