Marbury: I'm a starter period

Stephon Marbury is willing to be a backup to Chris Duhon, mainly because he doesn't have a say in the matter. But Marbury made it clear last night that he feels he is still a starting point guard. "I always want to start," he said. "I'm a starter period. That's just what it is. It's not my choice to be in this situation. It's the coach's choice. It's his team and you've got to do what he says to do."

Yep that attitude is why you are riding the pine. Hopefully D'Antoni will put some humility in that guy because destroying a franchise did not do it. they need to know you can't live with cancer you remove it and hope it does not come back.

You're a starter for the Milan Meatballs of the Italian league. Over here you can sit on the bench with a towle over your head.

October 15, 2008  06:46 AM ET

Well, as predicted he is once singing a different tune, whining that he should be a starter. You will never a starter with that attitude. H*ll, i would even start Kidd over you.

When did he join the stand-up comedy circuit? Does Seinfeld know about this?

October 15, 2008  07:04 AM ET

What's the matter Starbury? Can't you just accept that you've been a problem ever since you joined the Knicks? Lookie here, sit down and count all the money you continue to steal from the Knickerbockers.

"I'm the backup period."

I have watched the Raptors-Knicks game. He still has the range and speed. But the leadership and the decision making are just not there. The team looked confused when he was on the court. The passing was better when Duhon played (but not like they were excellent).

Anyhow, David lee was terrific around the bucket.

MARBURY IS SUCH A CLOWN

October 15, 2008  08:22 AM ET

Knicks is really messed up. Here's another Pacman in the making. Everybody already started w/ a clean slate. Marbury didn't learn and decides to continue to be in the same path as before. Marbury, you have just been given a last chance and you are throwing it away. The Knicks just need to send Marbury to Isiah's house for good and tell him never to enter MSG again.

I doubt anyone expected any humility from this guy. Of course he still thinks he's a starter...that's exactly why the Knicks are what they are...NOTHING. I'm glad D'Antoni's sticking to his guns and benching him. I'm sure he'd prefer to let him go but far down at the pine is the next best thing. Why doesn't he just go to Italy already. Enough of the torture.

This bum isnt even a starter on the worst team in the NBA. How can it not get thru that empty head of his?

October 15, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Damn, Marbury might have a career in politics after all this flip-flopping. Councilman Marbury representing the 47th C.D. out of Coney Island seems real possible right about now.

Seriously, this dude needs to be quiet. He needs to stop opening his damn mouth and defiling us with this idiotic statements of his. If D'Antoni doesn't want to start him then guess what: YOU ARE NOT A STARTER!!

October 15, 2008  09:47 AM ET

Starbury will be Starbury!

October 15, 2008  09:50 AM ET

"I'm a starter, period".........he's the Jason Marquis of the NBA

October 15, 2008  10:00 AM ET

I think this guy has a personality disorder. The struggle for control of Marbury's mind is fierce. It looks like evil Marbury, or as I like to call him Evilbury, is winning.

October 15, 2008  10:05 AM ET

Funny roodog34, really funny.

October 15, 2008  10:15 AM ET

Marbury just shut-up. That said, should Marbury say, yes my career is over, or lie and say Duhon is a better player? If there was a better starter, Marbury might respect the choice more. The fact is duhon will have a good game here and there, but Marbury, crawford, Nate and maybe collens are all better at the point.

Duhon should start if the coach so desires. Again, ability Duhon is at best 3 on this team.

October 15, 2008  11:10 AM ET

At least he's falling in line and taking direction from the coach but its begrudgingly and thats the type of attitude that this team doesn't need.

October 15, 2008  11:12 AM ET

Oh boy, cannot wait 'til Starbury is gone and slowly rotting away some other team's chemistry.

October 15, 2008  11:17 AM ET

You all are stupid, and do not know basketball. Marbury is a starter, period. Watching that horrible Knicks team D'antoni has put on the floor, Marbury is playing like a three guard wing, not even involved in the offence, and standing on the corner waiting to heave a jumpshot. Marbury has always been one of the best ball handlers in the league whose game is breaking down defenses with penetration, so on another team he'll be able to resurrect his game and all of you will be like, "wow, what a turnaround for Marbury". You people are plain dumb, the dumbest sports fans on the face of the earth. You get the award, and should submit your resume to the ny post or daily news where you obviously get all of your information from, since you know nothing about the game yourself.
