Knight open to coaching return

College basketball fans might argue any interview with Bob Knight should cover cheating in recruiting, whether he'll return to coaching and what he thinks of Indiana University's program today. Score two out of three for "Mickey's Corner," a local television Q&A with the former IU coach airing at 9 p.m. today on WFYI (Channel 20). Among other highlights: Knight said that he would return to coaching basketball if the right opportunity came along, but he didn't say where or when. There's a sniff of vintage Knight, too. When asked for his take on cheating in recruiting, the former ESPN guest analyst for this year's NCAA Tournament said: "If you get caught cheating, they should shoot you. Because you're too dumb to be alive."

i hope Neil Reed catched up with this jerk someday and puts the hammer on this old man .......

With local connections to Knight, I know for a fact he wants to come back. But with his age and potential for a blowup, not worth it.

He is the best coach besides Wooden in my life time.

Neil Reed was a chump who lost his heart to play he should have quit...No excuses for Bobby if he did choke him, but don't discount Msr. Reed's culpability in the situation...far from innocent.

Chairs and administrative assistants everywhere are cringing today at the thought of this...

yeah, he was a chump can't dispute that. but it was not a matter of 'if he choked him.....he definitely was choking him' there is absolutely NO reason whatsoever......NONE for a coach to choke a player of his no matter what the reason!! if i was reed's father i would've went down there and beat the hell out of bobby. i'm all for discipline but to choke someone's kid because he ticked you off is getting into a dangerous area. and for a coach who's coaching style is all about discipline he showed absolutely none! one of the greats as far as basketball innovation and running a top notch program but lacks self-discipline when concerning his emotions

I would LOVE to see coach come to St Johns-
- not sure if he would tolerate the NY media- but he might
actually be able to revive the Johnnies

Robert Montgomery Knight can coach where ever he wants. I would send both my boy's to him in a second. He might not get them to the NBA, but they will be ready for the real world.

Amen brother! Not only that but your son would learn how to choke and how not to be choked. Bobby Knight for President, the two bozos we have to choose from is pathetic!

wrong......if he wanted to coach wherever he wanted he would've been able to stay at IU. its real easy play tough guy role when its not your kid gettin choked. the kid probably deserved it....no doubt but for a school official someone you trusted with your son puts his hands around his throat.....that individual would get blasted in the face. i guarantee it'd be different if it was your kid he grabbed by the throat. ready for the real world is right.......in the real world where i come from someone grabs you by the throat......you protect yourself and try to knock is freakin head off. and all this started cause bobby is hothead....puhleeessseee!!

The vidoe seems to show him grabbing his throat, I give you that, but it was not a choke by any stretch, ask Mr. Carlissemo for the definition. And football coaches as well as basketball coaches (not baseball, too pastoral) grab players by arms, hands, jerseys helmets, heads and yes necks on a regular basis. Honestly if you ever get the chance go watch a Div. I program practice sometime and you will as much if not more in an intense practice. Does it make it right, I believe it depends on the situation. But you have to remeber there was sooo much more going on with neil and his father in regards to Bobby to isolate a single incident, which IIRC came out over a year after it happened.

I too would send my son to him, if I was certain my son understood what he would be in for. And I say that because 98% of his former players count him as a mentor, a teacher and a friend. They also say playing under him was hard, but worthwhile. i would not deny my son that opportunity. And I will tell him to ignore Kelvin Sampson insane amounts of phone calls...

unklesam, don't get me wrong. i absolutely love the hardnose, disciplined approach, and almost militant style of teaching that bobby has. but i've played collegiate athletics at the DI level and to brush off the notion that the grabbing of players by the neck not the jersey, arm, hands whatever but by the neck is common practice is absolutely false. maybe way way back in the day but not in current times. i attended school in the early 90's. and you're right i'm sure there is much more to the story with reed but i can think of any valid reason that would warrant a coach putting his hands around a players throat. and yes of course, most his players and former asst. coaches support bobby in that he's a great mentor and teacher. great coaches always are. he's done a ton of good for many and bottom line knows how to win and build a championship program. but that being said does not allow him to do whatever he pleases and act out whenever he chooses. i'm talking about leading by example. the bottom line is the kid was too soft to play for knight. he should have got rid of him. believe it or not i would prefer my boys play for someone with same coaching approach as knight but i would make clear that if you wrap your hands around my kid's throat we have a serious problem

Can somebody please repeat after me? LONGWINDED BABBLE. Nobody cares, it's not that serious. Bobby Knight is a great coach, that's that.

Totally agree with your assesment on only sending a child to him if that child has the right mind set. That's the only way it could work.
