Peavy OK with trade to five NL teams

Kevin Towers said last month it would be "very, very difficult to trade Jake Peavy" because of the ace pitcher's value to the Padres. Nonetheless, the general manager is open to trade offers for Peavy, who has guaranteed salaries of $11 million, $15 million, $16 million and $17 million over the next four years. If the Padres decide to trade Peavy, getting full value might be difficult as well if Peavy is unwilling to approve a trade to the American League. At season's end, Peavy said he would not accept a trade to the American League. When asked recently if that is still true, Peavy said he didn't "want to get into any speculation" on trade scenarios. His agent, Barry Axelrod, acknowledged that the American League isn't Peavy's first choice. "Jake has a strong preference to stay in the National League," Axelrod said. "It is hypothetical, but Jake, by any measure, has had a great deal of success in the National League. He has a comfort level with knowing how to approach hitters here." Axelrod made one concrete stipulation to any trade scenarios: "Jake would only approve a trade to a team with a solid chance of winning and a winning tradition. Those teams in the National League may be in locations that are more acceptable, or would be." He said "the ability or opportunity to win is very important to Jake, and hopefully some sort of coincidence with his and his family's lifestyle." Among the cities Axelrod mentioned were Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and St. Louis.

Of course he wants to stay in the National League. He wants to continue being considered as possibly the best pitcher in the game which won't happen in the AL.

I would take him against anyone in the AL.

If Peavy wants to be the best he needs to beat the best.

Surely sir, you must in fact be Chipper Jones underneath that avatar, because otherwise you give the impression of being an idot!

and thats IDIOT

I'd like Milwaukee to be on there too...Peavy should talk to CC about the clubhouse. Great atmosphere, young group of players, talented. It would quickly make Brewer fans forget Ben Sheets.

He'd be a great fit in STL with Duncan. I hope Mozeliak at least thinks seriously about it and makes a pitch to Towers. We have OF bats to spare.....

peavy should be alittle more open minded about coming to the AL, he would be great in the Yankee rotation

Peavy and Roy Oswalt are really good friends -- hunting and fishing buddies. It's just too bad Houston doesn't have anything to trade for him.

actually isn't it idjit?

Why doesn't he want to come to Philadelphia? We're one game away from the World Series (actually "zero" away is more accurate with Cole Hamels on the mound tonight) and will be contenders for some time to come. Besides we can offer a contract that is cheesesteak incentive laden.

The Pads were one game away from the playoffs in 2007 then they have a bad year and already they want to trade their ace pitcher? That being said. with his average frame, herky-jerky delivery and large workload for someone at his age I think he's s strong candidate for a shoulder/elbow breakdown in a year or two so if I could get 2 blue chip pitching prospects, like Billy Beane always seems to be able to do, I would consider trading him.

Oh, you mean Peavy must go to Oswalt's private farm, where no one else is allowed to hunt, and Roy has electronic surveilance equipment set up near the places he baits the deer? Yea, they will have a ball.

That's because we've never seen his numbers after a season in the AL.

The most recent straight up comparisson that I could find was from May, but with no numbers to post I'm pretty sure the National League beat out the American League in BA, OB, Runs Per Game, OPS, and Slugging this year.

great point...Duncan is the perfect coach to maximize an already extremely effective career. Plus Mozeliak needs to bring in a big name to make up for standing idly by while the Brewers and Cubs did so last season

Bring him to Atlanta. No one needs him more than us.
