Notre Dame suspends Yeatman

Notre Dame tight end Will Yeatman has been suspended from all football activities for the fall semester, his father confirmed early Wednesday, ending his season following a Sept. 21 arrest. According to Dennis Yeatman, the decision was rendered by Notre Dame's Office of Residence Life on Tuesday evening. Yeatman was arrested at a house party Sept. 21 under suspicion of underage alcohol consumption, false informing and resisting arrest. St. Joseph County, Ind., prosecutors found Yeatman to be in violation of a plea agreement he signed in February following an arrest for operating under the influence, and he is to be sentenced at a still-undetermined date for that charge. Dennis Yeatman expressed dismay early Wednesday at the decision to suspend his son from football this fall. "Will had a .02 (blood-alcohol content at the party)," Dennis Yeatman said. "The other charges were dropped. There's never been a police report filed. And Will is an exceptionally good kid, admired by everybody, gets along with everybody. He's being suspended for a .02 BAC. After all he's been through, it appears to be a disproportionate penalty for college student." Dennis Yeatman said there have been no discussions about transferring out of Notre Dame. Irish coach Charlie Weis was holding Yeatman out of game competition until his issues were resolved.

The biggest problem with our young people today, ARE THEIR PARENTS. Mr Yeatman needs to understand he was not suspended for a .02 BAC. HIS SON WAS SUSPENDED FOR BREAKING THE LAW TWICE IN THE LAST YEAR. His son signed the plea agreement and then went out and violated it using his own free will. Mr. Yeatman needs to be more concerned about why his underage son thinks it is ok to break the law by concuming alcohol and less concerned about his suspension from the football team.

I absolutely agree with pjsj's comment. Getting a DUI (even if it's driving a golf cart) is supposed to be a wake up call. In Yeatman's case, it was not. Yeatman had a lot to risk by going to ANY party when you have a DUI, and you're not 21. As much as I would love to see Yeatman play, this is the right decision. Go Irish.

GOOD! ND sucks.

.02, I think you can get a higher BAC than that taking NyQuil. Come on kid... if you are gonna party, try to get your BAC higher than your GPA.

If a program doesn't have integrity it is just like a "baseball minor league" for pro football. Yeatman will probably transfer. I just hope he learned something from all this... ND did the right thing.

Good points pjsj. My wife and daughter are teachers and they have parents all the time get mad at them for disciplining their children. For example, suspending a student for starting a fight, only to have the parent say the other kid deserved it. No wonder so many kids get into trouble over and over.

I'm a ND fan and I approve of the suspension. He signed the plea agreement, period. I don't care how low his BAC was, he had alcohol in him and he got caught, end of subject. His dad should use this as a learning tool for his son, instead of making lame excuses. Kudo's to Charlie and ND! They could have used him against NC but Charlie did the right thing by suspending him until the final decision. You can slam ND, but they handled this the right way.

shut up choppa, your mother doesnt love you and your dad is not your real dad loser!!

It's sad how talented players such as these piss their futures away by making such careless decisions. Oh man, do you know how much some people would do to be a starter for a great team such as Notre Dame? This guy achieved that and actually could earn a spot in the draft if he worked hard. If he continues to do stupid and immature things such as this then he can kiss the big NFL contract goodbye.

Will has more to worry about than his football career. DUI comes with potential for jail time and South Bend doesn't take kindly to people flaunting their second chance in the diversion program. Sentencing day could make his suspension a moot point.

After the father's comments I think he should transfer. Obviously the family does not recognize the issues and does no support the team.

Nice, apparently that isn't too far off if the kid's anywhere near as smart as his unrepentant father. BTW, where's that Sexton guy (you know the blind ND lover) to comment on this article? Too busy ruining other threads that have nothing to do with the rotting corpse that is ND football.

Are you serious, after getting beat by TOLEDO at HOME, you should lose all posting rights here!

ND just did the right thing and yet you have to come in here and bash them, worry about your own program before talking smack!

You mean college kids drink?!?!?! ND Res Life is a joke which has gotten progressively worse since Bill Kirk took the reins when I was an undergrad. The guy was drinking a beer at an off campus party. Yeah, that really merits a suspension.

He wasn't suspend because of drinking off campus. He was suspended for violation a probation agreement he had signed from a previous DUI.

Charlie's ma' white whale!

Hey Dad Yeatman, your son needs a father figure, not a whinner. and remember, it's this simple: " **** me once shame on you, **** me twice and your gone". If you can't pay the price, don't roll the dice. And Dad, read the probation agreement.

He'll bounce back. I hear he's starting a "How to Drive on Campus" book. It will be out next year. Should make millions...........

I heard the actual title was "How to drive on a sidewalk on Campus" and it's annotated.
