The Cubs have talked with the Texas Rangers and several other teams about deals involving outfielder Jacque Jones, team officials confirmed. Jones has another year left on a contract that pays him $4 million this year and $5 million next year, which could make it tougher to deal him to a would-be seller such as Texas.

please,PLEASE, Lord, let the Cubs dump this piece of offal known as Jones, mebbe get one of the good relievers from Tx

June 21, 2007  09:04 AM ET

This guy is garbage and one of the worst players I've ever seen play for the Cubs. I hope they get rid of him soon cause I can't stand the sight of him in a Cub's uniform any longer.

even if they only get a bat and a bag balls it's a win with JJ. he's terrible!!!

June 21, 2007  11:34 AM ET

Any player would upgrade our pathetic outfield. Nelson Cruz sucks, Kenny Lofton is older than dirt, and Brad Wilkerson is a piece of crap. Sammy is also sometimes out there which scares me. Jones is an upgrade over all these guys, even though he is also worthless. Probably won't happen, rumor of Torii Hunter coming to TX after the season is more likely. Go for Griffey, he is still one of the best hitters ever.

How come everyone hates Jacque Jones? He is not that bad. He can hit.

June 21, 2007  12:13 PM ET

This guy was scrap when he was with the twinkies.....I always confuse him with Juan Pierre....

June 21, 2007  02:32 PM ET

We want SAMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 21, 2007  03:53 PM ET

Come on, the guy is batting .234/2/20. That isn't that bad.

June 22, 2007  01:53 AM ET

Jacque Jones is not a bad player. You cubs fans just keep having this ridiculous expectations for every new player that comes in and they can't meet those expectations unless they're Derek Lee. You rip on these players until they start pressing and underachieve and that's why the cubs and the phillies never make the playoffs despite having engorged payrolls. The Twins have gone to the playoffs 4 of the last 5 years. We're grateful every time they make the postseason. We don't have this sense of entitlement as a fan base and that leads to a low pressure atmosphere that promotes overachieving among our players, such as Nick Punto last year. This year he's batting .225 and everyone still likes him. Jacque was a good player for us and he still can be for a team that doesn't expect career years from him.

June 22, 2007  06:07 AM ET

I gotta disagree with you on Punto vergachise. I don't get to see the Twins play very much, but his offensive production for a third baseman is completely unacceptable. He may prevent runs with his glove, but his .221/1/13 with an OBP .313 for a full time player is putrid. Call up someone from the minors or trade for a third baseman, but he has gotta go or gotta get better. .

June 22, 2007  11:39 AM ET

The cubs should trade Jaque Jones. They have got alot of young players that could fill up that spot. The cubs have to many outfielders as it is. Felix Pie is going to be in centerfield for the rest of the season probably. You know Alfonso Soriano is gonna be a full time starter. Then you got Cliff Floyd, Angel Pagan and Matt Murton (when he comes back to the majors) that can play in right field. The Cubs should try to trade him and get some good prospects that will help them in the future.

June 22, 2007  12:05 PM ET

jones sucks. at least in a cubs uniform . we need to get rid of him. plain and simple.

June 23, 2007  10:53 AM ET

The rangers need prospects not jones that would be stupid. I'm tired of are idiotic front office we don't need anymore crappy veterans
