Rock Hill South Pointe's Stephon Gilmore, a quarterback who is being recruited as a defensive back, committed to South Carolina. Gilmore, 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, was recruited by dozens of Division I schools and considered Alabama as the other finalist.

I sppose Spurriers' skills at QB coaching had something to do with this.

Other than the fact that he is being recruited as a DB... But looking at how Spurrier has been coaching this year, it wouldn't shockme if he was trying to come up with some kidn of plan to haev more QB's than the Buc's and rotate a new QB in for every down for an entire drive.

Big mistake son but i guess with the terrible economy and the way gas prices are, those things weighed heavy in his decision to stay at home in SC but be content with playing a bowl game a couple of weeks after the end of the regular season. Has SC ever won a SEC championship or played in a big time bowl game? IDK i'm just asking

October 16, 2008  02:17 PM ET

As bad as SC is at offense, Spurrior needs all the help he can get at having a decent defense. Besides, with their weak offense, their defense will be playing for 40 minutes a game. Guess he just wants to maximize his playing time instead of playing for Bama where the defense holds other teams to 3 and out quite often.

October 16, 2008  04:23 PM ET

I guess he wanted to start on a crappy team vs playing for a real school.
Who would you rather play for: Saban or Spurrier? Easy decision really...

October 16, 2008  06:27 PM ET

Who care both teams have been on the bottom of the SEC for quite some time .

October 17, 2008  12:52 AM ET

the kid wanted to play close to home, and he has a few friends on the sc team already. south carolina places more dbs in the nfl than most other teams. i would also say that bama losing to teams like la monroe had something to do with it.

October 17, 2008  09:17 AM ET

SC's defense is ranked third in the nation after 7 games, four of which were against SEC competition. That could have something to do with it.

October 17, 2008  11:37 AM ET

Flanders 111,
So who is it? Who should we rather play for? I'm sure you know both coaches personally and have such a wonderful understanding of football that your opinion on this matter will be very useful to us all. So do tell us, Flanders 111, who should we wanna play for?

October 17, 2008  09:43 PM ET

Yep Flanders, it would be an easy decision ... Would I want to play for the biggest sellout in the history of all sports ... or a class act like Spurrier.

October 17, 2008  10:13 PM ET

Oh my God. You Bama fools leave that kid alone. He's a young man. As a young man he made a decision based on what he feels is best for his future. It's not about you. It's not Alabama. Who cares about Alabama football? You guys will cheat and find a way to make up for it over and over again and then point the blame at someone else when you get busted. You've existed that way from the begininng of time. Your just pissed because Spurrier said that if Fulmer didn't turn you in, he would. Get over yourselves. You've only been back into consideration of any respect for a few weeks and this is how you handle it? By attacking a young man? Figures. What the hell is in the water down in **** land? With your history both in football and life in general, how do you feel you can talk to a kid that way? Lowest form of human species possible. Just shut the H*ll up and enjoy the success you are having while you can. It won't be long before Saban is obsolute as well. Then you can spend another 30 years crying over his grave too. Fools. I think if Saban saw your remarks he would be ashamed of the Alabama people. What's wrong with you people? Is Louisiana Monroe on your schedule this year? Have a good season. Leave that boy alone and let him sing his song. God, what jerks.

October 17, 2008  10:25 PM ET

let's all sing:
Don't give a d*mn about the whole state of Alabam, the whole state of Alabam, The whole state of Alabam,
Don't give a d*mn about the whole state of Alabam,
I'm from ( insert your school here).

Bama, Bama, Bama won't you bite my A**
Trash

October 17, 2008  11:00 PM ET

It's funny that you bring up the Louisiana Monroe game when Bama beat UcheaT 41-17. Imagine what Monroe could have done to Fat Phil and the Might Vols....lol

October 17, 2008  11:04 PM ET

Looks like them Bama boys get their feelings hurt pretty easily. Haven't seen such whining since Bear didn't come back from the dead on the third day.

October 17, 2008  11:10 PM ET

Hmmm....ranked #2 in the nation and we're still about two years away....I commend you Tennessee people for even picking your head up out of the sand after the marvelous season that Fat boy is leading you through. You embarrassed the SEC by losing to UCLA....pathetic.

October 18, 2008  04:12 AM ET

Right on, 21goingon22!

October 18, 2008  04:55 AM ET

Oh well whatever, it's too early to tell if another top five recruiting class is in the making for Bama, but Saban is a peerless recruiter so i'm sure we will still get ours this year

October 18, 2008  09:10 AM ET

Yeah, you beat TN 41-14 last year and will probably do worse this year. You have to respect Coach Saban. As you well know every team has down years. All programs have their peaks and valleys. But why do Alabama fans have to be the most ignorant of all? But I digress, the young man is the topic of dicussion. Does it make you feel like a "big ole man" to publiclly downgrade a decision he made, once again, concerning his life. No respect for a man talking down to any young man just because he doesn't want to play for you fools. Perhaps he decided he doesn't want to represent that cess pool of ignorance you call Alabama. I realize this word doesn't appear in the Alabama dictionary but try to show some class for once in your pathetic existince. Have a good season.

October 18, 2008  10:13 AM ET

BigOrangeVol,
I don't care about where this kid is going to school. I actually find it admirable that a kid stays in his home state. I wish Bama could have got him, but I respect his decision.
I just responded because it was humerous the way you pointed out that nobody cares about Alabama yet you took the time to write a song about us.
What's scary to you is the fact that you orange pukes are not in anybody's conversation about championships...hell, ya'll probably won't even make a bowl.
If I'm correct and Missouri beats Texas today, Bama will be #1. How are the Hillbillies going to handle that?

October 18, 2008  12:07 PM ET

If that happens, congrats. It's about time bama became relavent again. I'll proudly sip my jug and smoke my corn cob pipe while I watch the game and ponder who we are going to get to rebuild our program.
