University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz has suspended his son from the Hawkeyes football team after he was cited for drinking underage. James Ferentz, a freshman offensive lineman, was cited by Iowa City Police for drinking underage early Friday morning. In a statement, Kirk Ferentz said he was extremely disappointed with his son's behavior. He says his son is suspended from all team activities for an indefinite time and will also be required to attend counseling sessions and perform community service for the next six weeks. Kirk Ferentz says the fact that it is his son being punished "only complicates an already tough situation."

In his son's defense, what else is there to do in Iowa after the corn harvest?

Good for you Dad....Coach.

Outside of drinking, they all get cornholed!

But good for him for suspending his son. On the flip side, Ferentz has some serious problems with his players getting into trouble. It's not good that one of those players is his son. The Iowa program is rotting from the inside out.

Being the coaches son, the kid should have known to keep this type of activity carefully concealed. That being said, unless he's driving around drunk, or getting into drunken brawls, this just isn't that serious. The coach had to take some type of action or he'd be crucified in the press, but unless there's more to this, his son doesn't sound like a bad kid... just a kid.

Agreed, you can't have your kid stab you in the back. If he was at a party I see no big deal, unless as you stated he was involved in some altercation that required police attention.

Now THIS is a father. Yeatman Sr. needs to learn from this guy. Yeah, the fact that he's the coach and there has been some scrutiny in terms of player conduct already might have forced his hand more than the desire to make sure his kids lives and learns. But still, compared to "Who cares if it was illegal, he wasn't REALLY drunk or anything " Yeatman, it is a positive action.

I agree, as an Irish fan I applauded Charlie for not only holding Yeatman out til the case was resolved, but for dismissing him from the team. And for Yeatman's father to say what he did was stunning. How about a little personal responsibility. This kid is not Irish material. Kudo's to Coach Ferentz for making the same decision.
