Ryan Howard watched Game 5 of the American League Championship Series just like everybody else Thursday night. "I didn't have anything else to do," he said. He didn't, and won't for the next few days. The Phillies clinched their first National League pennant since 1993 on Wednesday in Los Angeles, which means they have six days between that victory and Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday, at either Fenway Park in Boston or Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Phillies worked out for a couple of hours yesterday at Citizens Bank Park. They will do so there again today, be off tomorrow, fly Monday to Boston or Tampa, and work out on the road Monday night and again Tuesday. "I think this time is going to be good for us," said Howard, the Phillies first baseman. "We'll come out ready to play." But you will hear plenty about layoffs over the next few days, because layoffs haven't been kind recently to teams in the World Series. The Colorado Rockies had eight days between the league championship series and the World Series in 2007, and were swept by the Red Sox. The Detroit Tigers had six free days in 2006 and lost the World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals in five games.

The BET of the World Series is against Philly in Game 1. A week off with too many burgers n beers will make Philly play like the Yankees!

The Phillies maybe rusty in Game 1, but I think they will recover and have a great series. I think the Phils will have a big time advantage with the pitching. All the pitchers have the rest needed. Plus Hamels looks golden during this whole playoffs.

The Phillies have a good advantage in the pitching department because TB has 3 or 4 right handed starters, which is good for our predominantly left handed hitting lineup....Our 3 lefties against their left-handed lineup is bad for them (hopefully)...

I think Moyer will have a MUCH better series....Moyer always takes advantage of the young teams (see record vs. FLA)....
