Hawks' Kane cries over Savard firing

09:30 AM ET 10.18 | The Blackhawks went through a snappy first workout with new head coach Joel Quenneville on Friday in Bensenville, but they clearly weren't over the the surprise firing of Denis Savard the day before. ''I'll admit I shed a few tears last night just thinking about it,'' said Patrick Kane, at 19 the Hawks' youngest player. Kane broke into the NHL last season and snapped Savard's team scoring record for rookies en route to winning the Calder Trophy. day after the firing, Kane was still emotional. ''This is not very fun. He took the fall for us,'' Kane said. ''I was pretty close with Savvy. It's tough to see these things happen. You'd be sad if it happened to anyone, but especially your first coach -- the one you pretty much grew with last year.''
