As a life-long Dodger fan I can't understand their ease in trading away all-star catchers. Piazza, LoDuca and now Martin. Martin may have had a poor post-season but I wish the Dogers had 25 guys with Martin's "makeup." All he does is bust his rear-end on every play. At the risk of being called a Chase Utley, I love this guy. Anyone from Burr Ridge, IL not so much. Jr? Not even close. And of course it goes without saying that I love Laura more than anyone.

No way the Dodgers trade Russell Nathan Jeanson Coltrane Martin Jr. The Post is making things up. From what i've heard, the Dodgers love his makeup and leadership. He plays 150 games a year, hits .280 and plays great defense. He's a two time all star. If "front line catchers are hard to find", why would the dodgers trade one of about 5 front line catchers in the game?

they would be stupid to trade martin but if they do the sox and tigers will go extreamly hard at him

Mike Piazza was an all-star catcher and a consistant hitter, but LoDuca had one good year with the Dodgers and hasn't done squat since leaving.

ive watched the dodgers let go of piazza, lo duca, and navarro. All of them did well on other teams and the dodgers got literally nothing in return for them. The dodgers trades their next best catching prospect for blake in the cleveland trade. the dodgers would be idiots to trade martin a guy who gives 110% every time he takes the field but then again this is the DODGERS you know the guys who signed kevin brown, darren dreifort, andruw jones, juan pierre, jason schmidt, etc etc. i think ima find a new team if the dodgers trade martin

If front line catchers are hard to find, and the Dodgers trade their front line catcher, then the Dodgers will have no front line catcher. Do you think they will be alerted to this paradox before or after they trade Martin?

OMG, this would be incredible if it happen, I wish the roster was filled with guys that play as hard and love the game as much as Russel. Oh yeah he had a poor postseason with the bat, lets remember he's a catcher, and by the way he hit everywhere in the lineup. Show me a catcher that can do this. And wouldn't this mean the Yankees should've gotten rid of A-Rod, Angels of Vladi, etc etc etc. I'm a dodger fan, and I'd be pretty mad if this happens.

Mike Piazza is a first ballot Hall of Famer. Russell Martin won a Gold Glove as a Rookie and has been a two-time all-star and is truly an old school player. The Dodgers need to look at unloading the dead weight - Kent; not a team player and no range at 2B; Garciaparra gets paid too much for all the time he spends on the DL; Juan Pierre can't crack the starting lineup; will Jason Schmidt ever pitch again? Does Andruw Jones have a buyout clause in his contract? Brad Penny has turned into an overweight playboy (however, I think that model he was dating dumped him); The Dodgers definitely need to get some pitching.

the issue might be that Martin turned down a contract extension earlier in the year and they have concerns about signing him after his contract expires. In that context it makes sense to see what the trade market is.

I'm a lifelong dodger fan, but if they trade Russell I'll be pissed. This better be a rumor. He's the heart of our team. He's top 5 easy in the game right now. Who the hell are we going to replace him with people like Todd Hundley, Jason Phillips and Brent Mayne. We all remember their make up! The piazza trade was a joke and in 2004 we had great season going and they just about killed it when they traded Lo Duca away. We love the guy out here. Trade him away and nobody is going to be showing up at Dodger Stadium. He's way to young to trade away.

No way martin is a great player, i love his emotions he wants to do good for us in L.A. i t would be stupid to trade him. But knowing how baseball is a business and players more like (agents) that only care about themselfs, i don't blame the dodgers looking whats out thier for him. I love Martin the way he plays and enjoys being a dodger but the business side ruins for life long fans as myself. Players are entitle to make good money but how much enough money they need, agents like **** SCOTT BORIS that ruin our beautifull game that handcuffs teams in giving big contracts to players that all of a sutten they can't play well anymore, teams look for othier options to sign a player and trade another player to make things work. I don't think dodgers should trade Martin but i would'nt be surprise if it happens.
