An NBA source told The Boston Globe on Sunday night that the Clippers are fearful that newcomer star guard Baron Davis could miss as many as 4-6 weeks due to a sprained ring finger on his left hand that could require surgery. The two-time All-Star is expected to learn how long he will be out and whether he needs surgery during a doctor evaluation on Monday. Davis sprained the ring finger on his left hand at practice last Friday.

The Clippers chance of fighting for the 8th spot in the West is now done. Every single game counts in the West.

Tough break (all pun intended). The Clippers needed Baron to play a full 82 if they wanted any chance of landing a playoff spot in the tough Western Conference.

at least it isnt his knees.......

still- no reason to have locked im up for so long and for so much $
I like him, he's a REAL good player- but his history of injury is
just too much of a red flag to basically risk your frnchise on

theyre not out just yet, aside of Baron they still got a few good players who can help clippers survive the 4-6 weeks. they may not have a allstar pointguard, but they still have guys like Camby, Kaman, Ricky davis, Thornton...

And you think with those 4 players they are going to do much in the West ?

October 20, 2008  09:26 AM ET

A club like the Clippers doesnt have much choice who it spends its money on, as the real difference-makers dont want to go there. It's similar to the Nets re-signing Vince, Bulls-Gordon, Grizzlies-Milicic, etc. On the other hand, Championship-calibre players go to Championship-aspiring organisations (Brand to Philly, Allen & Garnett to Celtics, Lewis to Orlando, etc.).

October 20, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Good thing then have Ricky Davis, Eric Gordon & Al Thorton.
Still dont know why Miami didnt resign the consistant Ricky Davis.

October 20, 2008  10:39 AM ET

Typical Clippers.......get a big acquisition and he immediately gets hurt.

October 20, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Another big blow for the Clippers...Does anything go their way

October 20, 2008  11:38 AM ET

Everyone saw this coming . . . except the Clippers.

October 20, 2008  12:12 PM ET

oh well at least for Clippers fans there is a draft after this year

A lot of the "old guard" NBA players are going down with injuries it seems...time for the next generation of NBA stars led by Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Lebron James??

Maybe. But lets hope whatever happens, the NBA gets a new commissioner.

Gotta love Karma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 20, 2008  02:05 PM ET

Hurt again. Sure he was healthy last season. But with Baron, you always worry about injuries coming his way. Its like he attracts it. Like an aura or something.

Baron will "man up" and play. He's in LA now, the first thing people are going to say is that Kobe has needed that surgery for almost a year now. That's a recurring injury for any basketball player. And most of us don't have any surgery. In a few days it stops hurting and your're back in action. I'm a Baron fan, so if he's out for any length of time, I will be terribly disappointed.

I'm not so sure Baron will "man up". First off, Kobe hurt his pinkie finger and not his ring finger. You are getting closer to the shooting force of the ball as you move towards the middle of the hand. Second, I've never liked Baron so I just about have to say he won't bounce back like Kobe. :) I do wish him the best though because I hate to see anyone hurt.
