Brandon Graham meant no harm Saturday night. He simply was answering how he thought Michigan's crushing loss to Penn State would affect this week's game against Michigan State. But when he said, "I feel like we're not going to lose to State," it stirred the simmering rivalry pot. Considering Michigan is 2-5, the statement might have been a reach -- even after six straight U-M wins over MSU. Fans will recall last year, when U-M tailback Mike Hart called Michigan State U-M's "little brother" after a comeback win. "Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball and let him get the lead," Hart said, "then you just come back and take it back." It became the ultimate taunt for U-M fans and caused MSU coach Mark Dantonio to fire back: "Pride comes before the fall." Now Graham's comments have given MSU more motivation for a game that already was a focal point of the season.

Well, "The Fall" has come. Let's see if M can walk the walk and provide one bright spot to a very dissapointing season.

I am pumped about going to this game this weekend. I think the worst thing possible happened for UM though, MSU got embarrassed. They wont me walking into the big house all confident and cocky. The only reason I think UM has a chance is their strength has been their D-line and stopping the line. If the right offense shows up, they can beat MSU, if the right offense doesn't show up, it could get embarrassing,

After what Ohio State did to Michigan State, I think Michigan might win.

Basic Blues, I think your trying to be nice. And yes, I did see meeeeeechigaaaan move the ball against PSU in the first qtr. But meeeeeeechigaaaan can not put a full game together.

You can not compare tOUS & meeeeeeechigan.

I love this pic of dick Rod, it looks like he's throwing up in his mouth.

It's not going to be a good season. I'm fine with that as a UM fan. But the kids need to learn to "shut up" and just play hard.

What's with the new pic? Soup Nazi not doing it for you anymore?

If MSU loses to a hapless and sputtering UM, then MSU really needs to fold the football program and give the money back to the boosters and ticket holders.

Btw, MSU choked worse than the female lead in a snuff film this Saturday against OSU. Everyone knew that UM would struggle being first year coach/new program. But why can't MSU ever get it right?

October 20, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Watching the MSU game, im not too worried about state either. Put 7-8 guys in the box, stop ringer, and MSU has got some big problems. You gotta make Hoyer prove he can throw the ball...and it would also help if the blue offense did not turn the ball over on their own 15; that makes it pretty tough to play defense. You gotta love that picture of RR

Ugly ugly ugly little sister is going to kick the powder puff MICHIGAN'S teams as-s.

Sounds like an excuse to me!!

And your team lost to a 1-4 MAC team ( Toledo) @ the big house!!!!!!

Well, you still play Purdue, so that should be a win.

October 20, 2008  10:59 AM ET

Michigan State is going to win this game. It's amazing to me how Michigan fans can STILL BE COCKY AND ARROGANT(see "annarbortreecity" above) with a 2-5 record and a loss to Toledo and Utah.

And to "The Warden": Ohio State has MSU's #. MSU played right into Ohio State's strength: power running with a great running back. When Cousin's came in and started throwing the ball around, Ohio State struggled.

MSU is going to pound Michigan.

I wouldn't bet against Purdue vs. the Crapperines either.

Sexton and buckeyedude:
There is no question that U of M sucks this year. I used to be optimistic but now I just realize that this team isnt very good. That said, MSU is still MSU, U of M does not lose to MSU... MSU's last two wins in the series were controversial( the clock staying on 1 second for a long time, and the legendary no call pass interference on Desmond). U of M does not lose to MSU...RR is bending over backwards to set records this year but he will not lose to the "Tunes".
If a mediocre OSU team can whip on state like they did, I think big blue has got a very good chance in this game. Especially if Hoyer is hurt.

michigan has been getting beat so badly now there fans are becoming delusional msu by double digits

You are right, it has never been like this so many fans dont know how to deal with this season...Im glad i am a lions fan otherwise i would have no idea how to handle this

October 20, 2008  12:04 PM ET

If Threet plays I think Michigan has a chance. Michigan State is a one dimensional team right now.

October 20, 2008  12:29 PM ET

annarbortreecity:
There was nothing controversial about Bill Burke and Plaxico Burress owing you in '99. You're right we haven't beat you a whole lot in the last decade and beyond. But for you to actually think that it is impossible for that trend to change is just utter arrogance. I'm sure that you were saying that MSU could never dominate in hoops too. Then Tom Izzo took over and you stuck you're foot in your mouth. Get ready to do it again because MD has us moving in the right direction and dickrod has you barely treading water.

EVK:
I never said anything about the "Toons' " basketball; they are one of the most successful college franchises...but during football season, it is all about U of M football; They dominate MSU, Dantonio is pretty cool but he is in over his head trying to beat U of M with the spartans...maybe if he coached another team. It might be arrogance but why wouldnt I be a little arrogant given what happens in this game every year. After the front 7 holds ringer to minimal yardage, Hoyer is going to have to throw and that does not work too well. RR may have lost to toledo but he wont lose to State, State always finds away to gift wrap that game for big blue.

Dantonio is the man, I still wish he was in Columbus.
