Tailback Ben Axon of Bradenton, Fla., switched from Clemson to archrival South Carolina on Monday. Axon provided some strong opinions for the website: "It was just the sudden downfall of the Clemson program. They are going downhill. They lost to Georgia Tech, which I thought was very important to [Clemson interim coach Dabo Swinney] -- Clemson felt like home to me. But I've made my decision and I hope everybody respects that."

Blowing chunks on the podium is not the way to start your coaching debut.

Clemson is dying a slow death.

October 21, 2008  07:34 AM ET

Giving mouth to mouth won't help either!

October 21, 2008  08:56 AM ET

This kid sucked anyway... no one at Clemson wanted him. He would have been buried in the depth chart.

Everyone sing!
o/~ (thump thump thump)... and another one bites the dust... o/~

(Weird Al's version works here as well.)

Tubberville, are you listening?

If no one wanted him, then why were they gonna waste a valuable scholarship spot on him?? Make sense buddy!

ZOMBIE SWINNEY EATS BRAINS

October 21, 2008  11:32 AM ET

He said it best himself when he was quoted saying he had to play hard to get a CHANCE to get on the field at Clemson... go to USuC and play right away. Sounds like a kid that wants things handed to him.

October 21, 2008  12:17 PM ET

Why didn't he change his commit to a good team?

October 21, 2008  12:43 PM ET

How good could he have bee n to be considering clemson in the first place?

Cause no good team would start him

A four star 200 lb running back, sounds like just what we need.

Your statement just makes you sound bitter that Clemson lost him... and jealous that South Carolina got him.

Clemson has an arch rival?

Hey buddy what rock did u crawl from under? Schools waste valuable scholarships all the time. Its the nature of the business. Believe me recruiting is a business may the team with the best chance win. Call it luck of the draw, 50/50 or whatever but all kids don't pan out.So they give out these schoarships and hope for the best.

That's great. Leaving Clemson to go to South Carolina because Clemson is going downhill. Where in the hell do you think S.C. is at? It's completely understanable that a recruit decommits under the circumstances but to go to S.C.??? He wouldn't have played much anyhow. We got a great RB class last year and J. Harper is 225 and very speedy. He will be the focal point with a sick fast Ellington coming in as a CJ Spiller type back. We'll take our lumps which is normal when you fire a coach but it will all work out long term. A new big time coach will attract new recruits anyway. Also, we are loaded at RB, QB, and WR....we need some damn OL and DL.

October 21, 2008  10:34 PM ET

If that is what this guy wants to do let him go to the CAPON if SOUTH CAROLINA. If he doesn't get his way he will leave there and go to TEMPLE or BUFFALO or ARMY, no he can't get in there. Maybe U R DUMB U. jerry

Off subject....BUT...... you must read Miller's article at ESPN.com entitled "Cupcake Diet". Very good points are made.

Wow. I'm sure they won't think the grapes are so sour in Columbia.

I can understand where the kid's coming from, actually. SC's a weak team in the SEC year to year (though they upset a decent Georgia team in 2007, actually), but it is an SEC team and the SEC is a media darling right now. Obviously that can change, but I don't see the sportswriters flipping over to the ACC in droves any time soon. Butch Davis is starting to have some success at UNC, but Clemson was the anointed team this year and it's a total bust. The rest of the conference is below the radar. If the kid can't attract an out of state offer, then he should go to SC and play against Georgia and Florida. He might not get to win, but at least he'll be on the big stage.
