Kazmir likely to start Game 1

There won't be any official announcements until Tuesday's workout day, but the Rays rotation for the World Series appears to be set up this way, with LHP Scott Kazmir working the opener followed by RHP James Shields, then ALCS MVP RHP Matt Garza working Game 3 in Philadelphia, followed by RHP Andy Sonnanstine. That schedule allows Kazmir to pitch on five days rest, and Shields to work on his normal day. Garza, who pitched Sunday, would also have an extra day of rest. Sonnanstine hasn't pitched since Game 4 of the ALCS, so he will have 11 days between starts.

Wow this is gonna be good. Seven games....and who knows who will be the champions. Flip a freaking coin.

I would love the Phillies to win in Game 6. they could steal one in Tampa when the apparently "Big Game James" is pitching. Matt Garza is gonna be the tough one though in Game 3.

Kaz is the wild card literally here. The second half of the season he's been more shakier than my grandpa, but his last two starts have given an indication that he may be on track. He's lost a few mph on his fastball (who knows why since he's still in his mid-20s), but gained a better control of his breaking pitches. If Tampa can get 6-7 good innings out of him that bodes well. Kaz has a tendency of giving up a few runs early in games which is a horrible morale killer.

I see the series going a full 7, as Philly will take one game here, we'll take one game there, and due to Kaz being the winning pitcher in the All-Star game, the American League has homefield advantage this year. Is that a stupid rule or what? Just alternate the years as in the past. Most professional sport "All-Star" games are a joke anyway, especially the NBA, whoa Nelly, did you see that 185-178 nailbiter??? or the NFL where half the selected "All-Stars" don't even go to Hawaii due to "illness" or some other BS. It's all due to the owners and networks greed to squeeze out as much $$$ from us fans as possible.

Sorry for the vector, the Cubs curse, oops i mean the Philly curse continues...RAYS IN SEVEN!

I like this setup for the Rays. I think this series will go 6 or 7, and this sets up Shields and Garza for the last two games, which should work out nicely for the Rays

October 21, 2008  10:18 AM ET

The Rays need to keep hiting and pitching if they are going to win, duh, but there is a real question as towhether this team, so young, and new tot he playoffs, will crack and or let up at all. They have proved themselves in the regular and post season, but this is for all the marbles, time to step it up a notch, again.

Phillies will win this. You set up all you want, but the fact of the matter is that Rays bullpen will give it up. Phillies jump on so so bullpens and that is what is going to be the difference in this series. PHILLIES IN 6.

lol, yea ok...

During the regular season, the Rays bullpen was one of the best in baseball. Look it up. The Phillies have only one real weapon in their bullpen. After watching the Rays rip the Red Sox' star pitchers (both starters and relievers) in the ALCS, they should be more than ready to do the same to the Phillies hurlers.

What is this in here... this is a no brainer. Oh, and Jimmy Rollins will be at short, Chase Utley at second, and Ryan Howard at first.

Brock for Broglio.

Why they only "Rays" now? What happened to "Devil Rays"? No more evil than Tasmanian Devil or deviled eggs or Devil Dogs or Red Devil caulking product.

David Wright = catalyst for Rays wins.

October 21, 2008  10:09 PM ET

Argh, David Price* excuse the mistake.
